Pathway to Peace

We Are On A Hitting Streak in the Spirit

Text

Philippians 4:4–9 NKJV
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Lack of Peace

Mental Health Stats

The Teton Dam Failure
Our world is NOT at peace. We are a severely disturbed people. And I say that with confidence in what I know.
In 2020:
1 in 5 U.S. adults experienced a form of mental illness, anxiety, or depression.
1 in 20 experienced a “serious” mental illness.
More than 12 million adults claim to have had thoughts of suicide in the last year.
1 in 5 report that the pandemic had a significant negative impact on their mental health.
Among people 12 and older who drink alcohol, 15% reported an increase in drinking.
Among people 12 and older who use drugs, 10% reported and increase in use.
As a nation, we are using the wrong things to cope and self-medicate.
And others are simply bottling it up inside to the point that there is something that breaks once that point is reached.
God is not ready for you to break!
He is not willing that any should perish!
But there’s much more than the pandemic that is happening. MUCH more to overwhelm us.
At the same time that this is happening, there is increase in use of the phrase “mental health”. It’s mentioned often, but the help isn’t seen. More often, it’s simply an acknowledgment of our problem and that others should accept it.

Satan is an Agent of Chaos (Opposite of Peace)

Genesis 1:1–5 NKJV
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

God is an Agent of Order (Peace)

And now all of a sudden, God begins calling things to order, beginning with the sound of His voice.
He is still calling things to order!
Forgive the reference here, but I feel like a manager of a Starbucks right now.

The Times Square Starbucks during Hurricane Sandy

Hordes of people traipsed to midtown Manhattan Monday, traveling by foot and by cab to stand in long lines for an important commodity that Hurricane Sandy had made suddenly scarce.
The must-have item was neither batteries nor bottled water, however: These New Yorkers had journeyed to Times Square for Starbucks coffee.
"It was scary not having Starbucks,” said Bethany Owings, who told the New York Post she walked 10 blocks with her 18-month-old daughter Ava to get her daily dose.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Starbucks Corp. closed all of its New York City and Long Island locations at 4 p.m. Sunday so its employees could return home before the MTA shut down all trains.
Stores were supposed to remain closed on Monday, but the Starbucks on the main floor of the Marriott Marquis on West 45th Street was catering to a steady stream of caffeine-obsessed patrons.
Owings told the Post she found out about the rogue store via Facebook, but word spread quickly on other social media networks, including Twitter. For those who made the trip, the long lines were a small price to pay. Alex Mwangi, a Starbucks "gold card" holder, walked more than 20 blocks looking for a store -- a trek he said was totally worth it
“I’m a Starbucks fanatic," he told The New York Post. "I go four or five times a day. I like the way they make their coffee and the way they present it to you. Elsewhere is standard, regular coffee.”
Other chains like Dunkin Donuts were closed on Monday, Gothamist reports.
However, those closings meant more business for shops that planned to stay open during the storm.

How Do I Walk When I Can’t Even Stand?

Because you live for God doesn’t necessarily mean you will always have peace.
Job
There are people in churches today who look holy, but they’ve given up! You can see it in their worship, their prayer, their shell of a passion for God.
Stand, because God can’t use or fix that which has laid down.
Stand, because there is someone who needs help getting up.
Stand, because you will walk!

The Pathway to Peace

Philippians 4:4–9 NKJV
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
My question to you: What is it in this scripture that precedes the peace of God???
PRAYER.
The absolute most effective way to find peace in our lives is through the irreplaceable power of prayer.

Be At Peace

With Your Past

You are a new creature!
The old man is gone, washed away! His mercy is new every morning!
He threw away your old rap sheet of evil actions and sin!
You’ve got to get beyond your past so that God can use you in your present and build on your future!

With Your Person

God did not create you to be someone else. Stop wishing you could just be them. Be the best version of you that God wants you to be. Let Him mold you!

With Your Purpose
