Introduction

Gospel “Good News”
God
God created and loves us.
We were created for and need a relationship with God.
Man
We believed the adversary over God and disobeyed God’s command.
Sin came into the world and death with it.
Sin affected us, our relationship with God and our relationship with others.
We are in a hopeless state in Sin. We cannot fix this.
Romans 7:24–25 (ESV)
24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!...
Thanks be to God because He declared He would be our savior.
(Open to Gen 3)

God said He would Save.

God’s declaration that He will save us. (Gen 3:15)
God just found out from Adam and Eve that they ate the fruit and decided to blame others for their choices.
God them turns to the serpent and judges Him.
Genesis 3:14–15 (ESV)
14 The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.
God cursed the Serpent
to be cursed v., to have divine harm or evil invoked upon. (The Lexham Analytical Lexicon of the Hebrew Bible 2017: n. pag. Print.)
These words do not imply that hitherto serpents had not been reptiles (still less that the story is merely aetiological, i.e. a ‘Just So Story’ on how the serpent lost its legs—an interest belied by the tragic context), but that the crawling is henceforth symbolic (cf. Isa. 65:25)—just as in 9:13 a new significance, not new existence, will be decreed for the rainbow.” (Kidner, Derek. Genesis: An Introduction and Commentary. Vol. 1. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 1967. Print. Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries.)
Satan was judged by God for his deceitful leading humanity into sin. He is declaring Satan's demise.
God does not curse Adam or Eve, but declares the consequence of their Sin.
Affects their created purpose: Gen 1:27-28
Genesis 1:27–28 (ESV)
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Increased Pain in Child birth (16a)
Broken relationships (16b)
Ground is cursed (17b-18)
Work is difficult (19a)
Death (19b)
God declares He will Save them.
God tells Satan that He will save humanity from him.
Genesis 3:15 (ESV)
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
Enmity between Satan and the Seed of the Woman.
Enmity - hostility (state) n., a state of deep-seated ill-will: (The Lexham Analytical Lexicon of the Hebrew Bible 2017: n. pag. Print.)
This will be a deep seated hatred between Satan and God’s anointed one (Jesus).
the Seed of the Woman will crush Satan.
Bruise
to crush (compress) v., to compress with violence, out of natural shape or condition. (The Lexham Analytical Lexicon of the Hebrew Bible 2017: n. pag. Print.)
to strike (physical) v., to deliver a sharp blow, as with the hand, fist, or weapon. (The Lexham Analytical Lexicon of the Hebrew Bible 2017: n. pag. Print.)
The Seed of the Woman is Jesus who will crush the works of Satan and be that savior of Humanity.
Ephesians 3:7–12 (ESV)
7 Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power. To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him.
“Christ in you the hope of Glory.”

OT Authors believed He would Save.

The Old Testament continues to declare that God alone is the only one who can save us from our Sins. The Gospel does not start with the New Testament. The Authors of the OT books, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, understood that God alone could save them.
There are numerous text that declare this fact outright and others that point to this fact.
The Gospel is the message that God alone can and will save us from our sins.
Songs of Deliverance
Moses
Exodus 15:1–2 (ESV)
1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying, “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. 2 The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
David
2 Samuel 22:1–4 (ESV)
1 And David spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. 2 He said, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, 3 my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. 4 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.
Psalms
God alone is our Salvation.
Psalm 62:1–2 (ESV)
1 For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.
Psalm 62:5–8 (ESV)
5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. 7 On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah
New Song for Israel
Psalm 98:1–3 (ESV)
1 Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. 2 The Lord has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. 3 He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Prophetic
Isaiah 12:1–4 (ESV)
1 You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me. 2 “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” 3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. 4 And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted.

How He would Save.

Seed of the Woman
Genesis 3:15 (ESV)
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
Our Savior will be a person.
Galatians 4:3–7 (ESV)
3 In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
Romans 1:1–4 (ESV)
1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2 which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4 and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,
Anointed One (Messiah/Christ)
Anointed one was a King.
Kings of Israel and Judah were addressed as anointed ones. David said that he would not kill Saul because Saul was the Lord’s anointed.
God declared numerous times in the OT that he was sending a King who will deliver his people and reign in righteousness. Jesus is the anointed one that God was declaring.
In the Bible, the Messiah is the anointed king through whom God establishes his rule over the world. For Israel, this kingly hope was specifically related to a coming king who would descend from the lineage of David. The NT understands Jesus as the Jewish messiah, the one through whom God established his kingdom.” (Kugler, Chris. “Messiah.” Ed. Douglas Mangum et al. Lexham Theological Wordbook 2014: n. pag. Print. Lexham Bible Reference Series.)
God’s plan of Salvation is through a person. Jesus Christ the Son of God.

Do we believe He would Save.

Do we understand the hopelessness of our condition in Sin.
Do we believe God when He says He will be our savior?
Are we willing to humbly trust in God as our Savior?
