Let me invite you to take your Bible this morning and turn to 1st Peter.
Chapter 3. 1st Peter chapter 3 and today we're picking up the next section which begins in verse 8 and takes us down 2 verse 12. 1st Peter.
Chapter 3.
Peter says, beginning at verse 8, to sum up all of you be harmonious sympathetic, brotherly, kind-hearted, and humble in spirit.
Not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead for you, were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.
You're the one who desires life to love and see, good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
He must turn away from Evil and do good.
He must seek peace and pursue it for the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears attend to their prayer.
The face of the Lord against those who do evil.
Ever in a fusions chapter 4. In the first three verses there are.
Industry versus information that helps us to do what we just read in 1st Peter chapter 3.
And wind opens this.
He has just given them, three chapters of Doctrine.
And now based upon that, he calls them to a certain Behavior.
If you'll notice with me in a Fusions for he says, in verse one, therefore I implore you.
To walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called with all humility and gentleness with patience showing tolerance for one another and love being diligent to preserve the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace.
Essentially, what he is saying here is what Peter said in 1st Peter, 3 8 through 12.
But there's something here that we need to keep in mind as we go through 1st Peter 3.
And that is in the first verse of the Fusions for one.
Would he implores them to walk in a manner worthy of the calling, by what you've been called.
He is basically telling them this, your walk, your lifestyle you're living needs to match your calling.
In fact that uses a very interesting word.
Thats translated worthy inverse one and it literally means to be balanced.
Picture in your mind.
A set of scales.
And usually in a set of scales, we always see one side is tipping for their down, in the other side is tipping higher because it's not balanced.
It doesn't have equal weight on each side.
And what Paul is saying in Ephesians 4:1 that your walk, your daily living needs to match, needs to be balanced with the calling, the calling that we have been given by Christ is a high and holy calling.
And all life needs to show that our life needs to reveal that.
And so when you take that in the First Peter chapter 3 and you understand that for the last chapter and a half, we've been talkin about submission.
And the reason why Peter's been talkin about submission is because they've been being persecuted and I've been struggling and suffering and submission is key to everything.
Submission affects every area of our life.
We talked about it last week from seeing it in the marriage relationship.
We talked about before that seeing it, with our employers.
And before that, seeing that in civil government.
Submission to fix everything.
And now is he gets into verse 8 Down 2 verse 12.
He carries it one more time.
And now he talks about submission in the church.
In fact, when he says to sum up, that's not what preachers do.
When say in conclusion and they go on for another hour.
I have done that.
But what are you saying here to sum up?
He is referring to this subject up submission.
Kia, summing it up.
It is very interesting that the terms that he chooses to sum this up harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kind-hearted, humble in spirit, not returning, evil for evil or insult for insult.
This is a summary and this does help us.
Because you might have struggled with submitting to Civil Authorities.
You may have struggle with submitting to your employer and you may have even had some struggle in your marriage and submission.
But again be reminded that this is a way of life and there's some people that in the church, they have a struggle with submitting in the church, and if you don't know what I'm talkin about and show up to the next Baptist business meeting.
And you'll see it very clearly.
If it's one of those churches that struggle with Harmony, if they're not unified, then you can better believe that the business meeting turns into an opportunity for the flash.
I've seen those meetings.
I've sat in those meetings.
I've even officiated a meeting like that of which I've had to end the meeting when it got like that.
And that's sad because we're supposed to be harmonious, right?
We're supposed to be unified but yet we can agree on two things in a meeting because one party wants one thing and another party wants another thing and they can't come together on it.
They can't even make any compromises.
I just know what they want, and it's to death until we get it.
And yet they destroy many alives.
I've seen people walk out of church and never walked back in a church, all because of a business meeting.
I have really worked very hard to make sure that that doesn't happen here can't account for times before I came here and I can't even account for the fact that there may be times when something happens.
You just don't know.
Satan does everything he can to enter in and to destroy.
And especially when you start coming together and you're standing on the word of God and you're coming together, harmoniously unified around the truth of the word of God.
You can better believe it.
That Satan is going to be right there, fighting that.
And if it's not him is certainly a demonic host.
But ask Peter begins to bring this subject of submission to a conclusion.
Tncompass.
Is it in on everyone?
He says to sum up all of you.
They will be.
All of you is referring to all believers in the church.
It takes you all the way back to 1:1 when he referred to them as the chosen.
Also in verse 3 has been born again.
Also as those who reside has aliens scattered throughout pontus, galatia Cappadocia, Asian, Bethania.
So that's the everyone that's the all that sin encompassed by that term in verse 8.
I said, what does he tell them?
Well, if you'll notice in verse 8, when he says be harmonious sympathetic, brotherly kind-hearted, and humble in spirit, those are adjectives.
It's amazing that they're not commands.
But yet they seem to carry some type of imperative Force because you can find support for this elsewhere in Scripture.
But I want you to notice here in these five adjectives.
He is basically giving us behavior is giving us attitude.
Here is the attitude that should dominate the church.
And so I wanted some of these five adjectives with one word.
And that's the word behave.
Because when you think about this in, in all of these areas of submission, isn't that what we've been called to do behave?
Because there's the temptation to get in the Flash.
There's the temptation to respond the same way that were being treated.
How you you feel the sting of it and government, because government has the authority, you feel the sting of it with your employer, because your employer has Authority.
But more than feeling a sting in the home, you feel the pain of it, it hurts.
And as we said last week, if you want to win, your unsaved spouse is going to come through.
This means it's going to come through Behavior.
Wives living out Christ in front of their unsaved.
Husbands, that is a testimony to them that they will win them by the very behavior of their lives.
The very concept of their lives.
Husbands will win their unsaved wives by having the same, kind of response.
But think about that is being true in all the relationships.
Because these passages have hit on all kinds of relationships, relationships, and government relationships in your job relationships in your home.
