He is a Celestial Priest
Everyone needs a High Priest to offer gifts and sacrifices for sin.
Our High Priest is greater, Jesus has passed into Heaven itself.
The Old Covenant had earthly priests.
The High Priest could enter just once a year into the Holy of Holies to offer sacrifice.
They had bells on the bottom of their robes Ex. 28:35 “35 And it shall be on Aaron when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy Place before the Lord, and when he comes out, so that he does not die.”
This was to signify that everything was going okay.
There is no question whether Christ’s sacrifice was accepted.
He was approached
He is a Compassionate Priest
He is compassionate to those who come to Him by faith with their need.
However, he also directed them to their deeper spiritual need that they often overlooked.
John 6:26-27 “26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.
27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you.
For on him God the Father has set his seal.””
He is qualified to be priest because He is fully human.
He is a Called Priest
He was called by God the Father and approved by Him!
Psalm 2:7 “7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.”
This is the Father’s chosen representative.
He is the perfect Mediator.
The God-Man.
He is a Continual Priest
The former priests served for a lifetime, but then would have to be replaced.
How good would the new priest be was a question that the public surely wondered.
Jesus High Priestly office is continual.
The former system only offered sacrifice for sins from the previous year.
Jesus’ sacrifice covers your sin; past, present, and future.
He is the author of eternal salvation - it is not temporary.
Hebrews 7:25 “25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.”
Our Confession
Hold Fast - Because of who our High Priest is, we must hold fast because He is faithful Hebrews 10:23 “23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
Because of our High Priest, come boldly to the throne.
