REAL FAITH IS FRUITFUL FAITH.

What do I mean when I use the word "real." I mean that which is genuine, and sincere, and honest, and thorough. I mean that which is not base, and hollow, and formal, and false, and counterfeit, and sham, and nominal.
"Real "religion is not mere show, and pretense, and skin-deep feeling, and temporary profession, and outside work. It is something inward, solid, substantial, living, lasting.
What is the character of our faith? Is it real? It may be weak, and feeble, and mingled with many imperfections. That is not the point before us today. Is our faith real? Is it true?
Throughout Jesus ministry he has addressed the wide-spread delusion of real faith and he does so again in the final hours of His life.

HOW CAN YOU TELL IF FAITH IS REAL?

HE INSPECTS THE TREE

2 Timothy 3:1–5 ESV
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

HE INVESTIGATES THE TEMPLE

Mark 11:11 ESV
And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
Jesus teaching on this subject is not complete. This is lesson one in a two part lesson which He will revisit in
John 15:5–8 ESV
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.

WHAT DOES JESUS MEAN BY BEARING FRUIT?

The branch can only bear what the vine is. If Jesus is the vine and we are the branches then the fruit we produce is character of Jesus himself.
Paul said it this way. . .
Galatians 5:22 ESV
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

ABIDING FAITH ABOUNDS WITH FRUIT.
