Zechariah 3 Part 4 fi Encouragements for Justi ed yet Unholy Priests Zechariah 3:7 (ESV) “Thus says the Lord of hosts: If you will walk in my ways and keep my charge, then you shall rule my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you the right of access among those who are standing here. 1 Peter 2:5 (ESV) fi you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacri ces acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:15–16 (ESV) 15but as he who called you is holy, you also 16 be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” Zechariah 3:8–9 (ESV) 8Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, you and your friends who sit before you, for they are men who are a sign: behold, I will bring my servant the Branch. 9For behold, on the stone that I have set before Joshua, on a single stone with seven eyes, I will engrave its inscription, declares the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day. Isaiah 53:11 (ESV) fi Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satis ed; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. John 10:36 (ESV) do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? John 10:37 (ESV) If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; John 17:4 (ESV) fi I glori ed you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. John 17:6a (ESV) I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. John 17:8 (ESV) For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; John 17:17 (ESV) Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. John 17:19 (ESV) fi And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sancti ed in truth. Hebrews 10:9–10 (ESV) then he added, “Behold, I [the Messiah] have come to do your [God the Father’s] will” . . . 10And by that will we have been sancti ed through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. fi (Hebrews 10:9 quotes Psalm 40:8.) Ezekiel 37:27–28 (ESV) fi My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 28Then the nations will know that I am the LORD who sancti es Israel, when my sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.” Jeremiah 33:15, 17–18 (ESV) those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the 17 land. . . . David shall never lack a man to sit on the 18 throne of the house of Israel, and the Levitical priests shall never lack a man in my presence to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to make sacri ces forever.” fi 15In Jeremiah 33:22 (ESV) As the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sands of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levitical priests who minister to me.” 1 Peter 2:9 (ESV) But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. fi Revelation 1:5–6 (ESV) and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the rstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us 6 from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Revelation 5:10 (ESV) and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth. Revelation 5:9 (ESV) And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, Zechariah 3:8c-9 (ESV) behold, I will bring my servant the Branch. 9For behold, on the stone that I have set before Joshua, on a single stone with seven eyes, I will engrave its inscription, declares the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of this land in a single day. Isaiah 28:16 (ESV) therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’ Psalm 118:22 (ESV) The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. Acts 4:11 (ESV) This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. Ephesians 2:19–22 (ESV) 19So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members 20 of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself 21 being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy 22 temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. 1 Peter 2:4–5 (ESV) you come to him [Jesus], a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen 5 and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacri ces acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. fi 4As 1 Peter 2:6-8 (ESV) For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and 7 whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has 8 become the cornerstone,” and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. 1 Peter 2:9–10 (ESV) 9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous 10 light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Philippians 1:6 (NASB95) fi For I am con dent of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 1:30 (ESV) fi And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sancti cation and redemption.
