Acts 9: 1-9

BROKENNESS, THE IMPORTANCE: To enjoy the fragrance of perfume or cologne, you must break the seal of the bottle! To see a plant grow and rise the outer shell too, must be broken along with the breaking of the ground. Finally for a new born chick to come into the world and to experience new life, it must break the egg that surrounds it. If you and I want to see God’s face we must first be broken.
BIBLE SUMMARY
According to Acts 9 “But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked for letters from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, both men and women, he could bring them tied up to Jerusalem. Now as he proceeded, it happened that when he approached Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” So he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting! But get up and enter into the city, and it will be told to you what you must do.” (Now the men who were traveling together with him stood speechless, because they heard the voice but saw no one.) So Saul got up from the ground, but although his eyes were open he could see nothing. And leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus. And he was unable to see for three days, and he did not eat or drink. Now there wa…”
Saul who studied under the Pharisees Gamailel was over zealous for persecuting the Christians of The Way.So Saul secured warrants of arrest for any men or women that he found. He was determined to arrest them and bring them bound to Jerusalem
As Saul and his party came near Damascus Saul was suddenly blinded by a bright light from heaven. The light was so intense that he fell to the ground, hearing a voice saying “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me”?
And Saul said, Who are you Lord?” and Jesus answered and said “ I AM JESUS, WHOM YOU ARE PERSECUTING. IT IS HARD FOR YOU TO KICK AGAINST THE GOADS.”
Saul trembling and astonished asked, “Lord what do you want me to do?”
The Lord said “ RISE AND GO INTO THE CITY AND YOU WILL BE TOLD WHAT YOU MUST DO.”
In this world, broken things are despised and thrown out. Anything no longer needed, we throw away. damaged goods are rejected, and that includes people. In marriage, when relationships break down, we have the mind set and tendency to walk away and find someone new rather than work at reconciliation. The world is full of people with broken hearts, broken spirits and broken relationships.
However the good news is that the Lord is very close to the broken-hearted, the outcast, the rejected, the despised and the lonely. For God saves those who are crushed in spirit”
As a chosen vessel of God, i have personally learned that there is a benefit and a blessing when we reach our breaking point, because it causes us to seek the Lord more sincerely.
There are definite things in our lives that need to be broken, such as pride, self-will, stubbornness, and sinful habits. Those are the things that separate us from God and His Will for our lives and it clearly destroys the connection.
The Word of God tells us that God breaks those who are proud and rebellious. God will punish all of those who proudly resist Him to pursue their own agenda in life disregarding Gods purpose and plans ordained especially for you.
Again, to us broken things are despised rejected and considered worthless, but to God we are valuable worth more than any gold or silver. God specializes in broken things, broken people. the un-fixable, the un-repairable! the things of this world that is considered trash, He turns into His treasure. He is a fixer, He can remake, renew, make over any and all things! but we must put it in His Hands surrender submit your will to His will for your life. it is only when we surrender that we can be restored and transformed. such surrender requires a brokenness on our part. Luke 9: 23 and Romans 6: 1-14 explains to us how believers become dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Remember the promises of God that can never be broken. “In this old world we will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world” John 16: 33 A righteous man may have troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. So let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning it’s shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart” Hebrews 12: 2-3
Hebrews 12:2–3 LEB
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the originator and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider the one who endured such hostility by sinners against himself, so that you will not grow weary in your souls and give up.
APPLICATION
The solution can never come from us or our own efforts, but must come from Him. It is only when we recognize our need for God that we are able to take our eyes off ourselves and focus them on God and our Lord ans Savior Jesus Christ. It is only when we stop thinking about ourselves ans start thing about what God has done for us that we can begin to heal from the inside out. Only when we admit our need and ask God’s help into our lives, can God begin to make us whole. its only when we confess and admit that we are broken and incapable of fixing ourselves. Once we let go of our own selfish desires and place God at the center of of lives , then and only then will everything fall in place.
Saints God is call us and drawing us unto Himself. He longs for us to come to Him so that He can heal us. It’s often times that we don’t hear His call because we are so busy doing other things, our lives, our families, our work, our own problems and unhappiness. So sometimes we must be broken before we can be used by God for His true purpose for our lives.
ILLUSTRATION
TO PAINT A PICTURE OF BROKENNESS, is a wild stallion that wants its independence. It does not want to be ridden. It does not want to be told what to do. But it has no problem eating the food that it is brought. Or the trough full of water to drink. Or the barn to get out of the rain and cold. No ! it just dosent want anyone on its back.
but the process is breaking a wild stallion is all the same. It involves the cowboy or rider to get on it’s back and riding it! Now the horse will usually object by jumping and bucking wildly to throw the rider off! “ Again bless me with the food the water the shelter from the storm! “ But just don’t get on my back! But a true cowboy rider or owner knows that the value is not in its beauty! No but its brokenness. the value increases 7-fold once its broken! No w how do we know when the horse is broken? Its when the horse yields to the rider ! Now that does not mean that the horse looses it strength, or muscle, or it’s own unique individuality or even its identity! No! it’s just a horse under control!
Many of us want the blessing of and from God, but we don’t want Him riding us! get off my back Lord! i want to be left alone.!
ILLUSTRATION # 2
WHEN WE WERE CHILDREN, I CAN REMEMBER RECEIVING A PIGGY BANK AS A GIFT. On the piggy bank there is only a small slot on it’s back to deposit coins into it. Just as there was only one way to deposit coins into the bank, there was only one way to retrieve the money that you have deposited. That is by TURNING IT UPSIDE DOWN AND SHAKING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNTIL CHANGE IS VISIBLE! GET THAT THE SHAKING CONTINUES UNTIL CHANGE IS WITHDRAWN!
NOW WHEN YOU REALLY WANT OUT ALL THAT YOU PUT IN THE ONLY WAS TO GET IT WAS BY BREAKING THE BANK! AND ONLY WHAT YOU HAVE PUT IN CAN YOU GET OUT! BUT IT INVOLVES THE BREAKING!
