Christian Standard Bible (Chapter 1)
1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God., 2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;he will prepare your way” 3 “A voice of one crying out in the wilderness:Prepare the way for the Lord;make his paths straight!” 4 John came baptizing, in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. 6 John wore a camel-hair garment with a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey.7 He proclaimed, “One who is more powerful than I am is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of his sandals. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

-Mark is Unanimous Arthur by church fathers
-a close companion of Peter (Peter refers to Mark as “my son” in 1 Peter 5:13 (he is also referrecnced throughout the Book of Acts)
His Gospel contains the The Apostle Peter’s Account of the Lord Jesus’ earthly Ministy
- In 150 ad Justin Martyr referred to the Gospel of Mark as the “Memoirs of Peter”
-In 140 a Bishop Papyis wrote that the Apostle John said, Mark having been the interpreter of Peter, wrote down accurately what soever he remembered.
-This speaks to the point that Mark’s Gosepl wasn’t written in Chronilogical order.
-Mark was concered about accurrately reporting what Peter tolf him about the actions and deeds of Jesus
and not necessarily when they happened.
-Mark wrote his Gospel in somehwere in between late 50’s early 70’s ad
and there is uniform agreement that he wrote his Gospel while in Rome.
-With that being said, his target audience where was the Gentile population in Rome.
skips Christ Lineage, he focues on his deeds and actions doesn’t go record Christ’s long discourses and teachings like Sermon on the mount.
-It was written to bolster their faith in the midst of persecution. most likely

Mark declares the beginning of the “Gospel” = Good News
“The Revelation of the grace of God to fallen man through a mediator, including the character, actions, and doctrine of Christ, with the whole scheme of salvation, as revealed by Christ and his apostles.”

-Jesus - The Greek word for the Hebrew Name: Joshua which means THE LORD (Yawaeh or jehovah, YHWH, tetragrammitan) is salvation.
-Christ - not his last name but a Title. It is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word “anointed one”
signifies His Office and ruler of God’s Kingdom that was propheised from the OT.

John’s Baptism of Repentance

-BAPTISM: symbolically demonstrates and inward attitude. Outward sign or token of heartfealt conviction towards God in prepartion for His Coming

Repentance: Metanioa

DEFINTITION: is a change of disposition and a new way of thinking about God, about sin, about holiness, and about doing God’s will.

Repentance also underscores the need for Christians to depend on God for transformational change
