My favorite reading was chapter one of “A Light to the Nations. The beginning of this reading caught my attention as our author began to talk about the gospel message. However, it was taken a step farther in chapter one. Churches use the word “Gospel” so often. Yet as Doheen mentioned, the gospel is not an after thought to our faith. The Gospel is the centerpiece of our Christianity. The Gospel is not an after thought. Doheen says “When Jesus steps onto the public stage of history, he broadcasts the good news: The kingdom of God has arrived.” This miraculous news shoudl still be on the front page of every news paper, every social media article, every voice should be proclaiming the name of Jesus. I always affirmed what Doheen says in regards to “If we believe the good news of Christ, we are committed to the biblical story as the true story of the world.” But I chose this as my learning outcome because I had never thought of it in this same light. In saying that I mean that perhaps we have hindered the gospel by not allowing it to be at the front of our churches, or even our lives.
Perhaps just as Wright said in his writing, Maybe we as Christians have done a bad job at reading our mission in the scriptures. I began to ask the question, “why does this happen?”. Wrights phrasing was “we have failed to go further because we have not grasped the missional significance of the Messiah.”
