You’ve Got to Have Faith – to Go Where You Don’t Know Where

Hebrews 11:6, 8-10

1. Leaving for an Unknown Destination:

a. You must be able and willing to leave, even though you don’t know where you’re going. That means LEAVING what you’re used to, leaving your comfort zone, leaving even the culture (physically or spiritually) you we’re born into, and leaving the status quo, ready to follow God to something better that He has for you.

b. Paul said in Philippians 3:10-14, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; (11) If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. (12) Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. (13) Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, (14) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Forgetting those things behind and pressing toward the mark for the high calling of God in Christ Jesus!”

c. Where are we going? That’s the point…you’ve got to have faith to NOT KNOW where you’re going, but just be happy that He’s holding your hand. We’ve lost that faith - that simple childlike faith that God won’t always show you the end-result. He will let you know just enough to know that His hand is leading you.

d. You must be like Father Abraham with a living word from a living God and step out not knowing where you’re going and have faith Him!” For “…without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

e. Some of you, God wants you to do things, but you want to know how it’s all going to work out before you step out, it doesn’t happen that way all the time. Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” I’m not saying faith doesn’t prepare. I’m not saying faith doesn’t plan or ask. But there are times, like in the life of Abraham, where we must be willing to leave our comfort zone and exhibit simple child-like faith in God, and leave.

• We must be men and women of faith. Begin to wait on God and live in your Bibles so that it would become living to you and you would see faith birthed in your heart through the Word operating in conjunction with the Holy Spirit. Pray that God would give us the grace to leave what we’re used to for better things that He has for us. Don’t be trapped culturally or religiously that you’re not able to move to that something better that He has for you.

• We want to be led by the Holy Spirit with the confidence to go out, and even though sometimes we don’t know where were going, we have to have simple faith in Christ. The Lord said of Abraham in Hebrews 11 that he “went out not knowing where he was going” and if you’re following Jesus, that’s a great place to be.
