Outline of Today’s Bible study.

We are going to look at Genesis 1 in three different aspect
History (historical aspect)( what Does Genesis 1 Tell us about the History of the physical world)
Spirituality (spiritual aspect):- what does Genesis 1 tells us about the spiritual realities, or what are the spiritual truths revealed in this chapter
Note to understand these apsect of Genesis 1 we have to see it in the New Testament light.
Why? because remember the New Testament is under the New Covenant, and the ministry of the New Covenant is the ministry of the Spirit.
2 cor 3:6 “6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
This applies to all of the Old Testament. What reveals about the spiritual nature of the Old Testament is the New Testament. We see Christ in the Old Testament through the light of the New Testament.
Theology (theological apspect) :- defination of Theology ( it is the study of the nature of God and belief)
What does Genesis 1 tell us about God and his nature.

General points before reading

First we will read the whole chapter together.
then we will deal with the historical aspect of the chapter
Then we will deal with the Spiritual Aspect of the chapter
Then we will deal with the theological aspect of the chapter
Let us read Chapter 1

Historical Apsect of Genesis 1

Note, the history of Creation is not given to us in detail but rather what we need to know.
Division (sections) of Chapter 1
Verse 1 (summarry of all creation)
Verse 2 ( the condition of the earth) before creation)
Verse 3-5 (the creation of Light into the universe)
Verse 6-29 (focus on the creation of the earth -(the globe) which we live in- and everything in it )
Exception to this rule (verse 16) “he made the stars also” outside of this phrase everything in the passages of verse 3-29 focus on the earth.

The first section Verse 1 (summary of all creation)

Genesis 1:1 NKJV
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
This is a summary of all of creation.
The heavens reffering to the universe of everything in it and the earth or the globe as we know it.
God is the creator and the source of everything that we see in this physical world.
Note to take from verse 1
Everything that we see in the universe ( space) and the Earth has a begining, and the creator of all of this things is God.
He alone has created them.
He is the cause and the sustainer of all the things he has created
He is also outside of time Because:-
Isaiah 57:15 “15 For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”

The second section Verse 2 (the condition the world before creation)

Genesis 1:2 NKJV
2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
“without form and void” :- “tohu” and “bohu” describing a material substance that is lacking boundary, order ,defination or shape.
“darkness was on the face of the deep”:- darkness represents in the Bible in spritual terms as evil or calamity but here it is refering to the uniformed and unfilled condition of the Earth.
“the deep” is reffering to the primordial or primeval sea- the sea that existed at the begining of time: the waters of chaos, formless, shapeless waters
Psalms 33:7 “7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses.”
“the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters”:- The water here is mention before creation. This does not mean that God did not create water, in the same way the absence of creation of angels does not imply that God did not create angels.
The bible does not include the creation of the waters, but in a way it signifies the important of water of in the creation of life.
Water plays a significant role in the formation of life ( hence scientist when they try to look for life in other planet they first search for water ) and also has symbolic meaning when it comes to spiritual life. We are born again of the water and Spirit. A new creation is formed in the water of baptsim.

Verse 3-5 ( the creation of light in the heavens /universe)

Day 1

Genesis 1:3–5 NKJV
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
The first thing that God creates is light, and then he divides the light from the darkness and calls the light day and he calls the light night.

Verse 6-29 ( the narrative focuses on the earth)

Day 2

Genesis 1:6–8 NKJV
6 Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.
remembering that the earth was without form and empty and covered with water .
The first thing God did was separate the water by creating a firmament .
Frimament means “sky” or “expanse”. The expance of the atmosphere or the sky that we see above which is water. Then under it there is water which he called
This sky it called heaven

Day 3

Genesis 1:9–13 (NKJV)
9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
On the third day God gathers the waters together and calls them Seas. And he called the dry land the Earth.
So God creates the Earth and and the sea on the third day
11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.
He also creates the plants or vegetations on the third day. He creates the the herbs that yeild seed and the tree that yeilds fruit after its own kind.

Day 4

Genesis 1:14–19 (NKJV)
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;
15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.
16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.
17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth,
18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
God creates the Sun (the greater light) and the moon ( the lesser light) and the stars in the “firmament of the heavens”
Firmaments meaning sky or expanse, heavens meaning space or universe
Their roles
To give light not only to the earth but the “firmament of the heavens” or the expanse of the universe
They are to rule the day and night, so the sun the day and the moon the night
They are to be for signs and season.
Our season, summer, winter, spring, autum is based on the solar system or the sun and moon
The sign, we know that God uses for examples the stars and moon a a sign of spiritual
For example God used a star as a sign to lead the four wise men to Jesus
The bible tells us in the last days that “there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars;” Luke 21:25
They shall be for days and years
Our day is long or short depending on the sun rotation around the earth. So if in Summer our days are long and nights are shorts and in winter our days are shorts and night long. All this was created by God.

Day 5

Genesis 1:20–23 NKJV
20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
God creates the birds of the air and the animals of the sea and blesses and commands them to be fruitfull and multiply and fill the earth and the sea.
Note throughout creation the principle put forth by God which is everything is to reproduce after his kind, a fish does not become a bird, nor does a plant become a bird.

Day 6

Genesis 1:24–31 (NKJV)
24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
On day six God creates the terrestial animals. The animals that predominately live on the earth. The cattle and every creeping thing each according to its kind.
On day six also God creates man in his own image, he creates them male and female.
he then give them dominion over all the living creators of the earth.
Then he gave the command to be fruitful and multiply and subdue the earth. Which command has been largly fullfilled. Man has multifplied and increased in number astronomicly. Man has subdued the animals and the earth to the point of even extinction.
Verse 29-30:- God gives the herbs, the vegetation and the fruit trees as food for not only the animals but also for mankind. Therefore, once God had created the earth before the fall, everyone only ate plants.
It is after the fall that violence and the world and animals began killing each other and men began killing men.
The corruptness and the violence became so unbearable to God that he destroyed everything and saved Noah and his family and some of the animals in the ark.
Genesis 6:11–13 (NKJV)
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
It is After Noah’s ark that God officially gives permission for man to eat flesh.
Genesis 9:1–4 (NKJV)
1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.
3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.
4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
Summery
Before the fall there was no sin hence no violence in the earth. Animals did not kill each other, neither did man kill animals. It was a peacefull creation, there was no suffering of any sort.
This is why in the last verse (31) of Genesis 1, the scripture says “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.”
This state of creation before the fall will be restored back at the millenial (1000) reign of Christ
Revelation 20:1–6 (NKJV)
1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;
3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
The nature of this reign is revealed in Isaiah 11:1-10
Isaiah 11:1–10 (NKJV)
1 There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots. (Christ)
2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.
3 His delight is in the fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.
5 Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.
6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them.
7 The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.
9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord As the waters cover the sea.
10 “And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious.”
The Bible tells us In romans 8:19-22 that the whole creation earnestly and egerly waits for the manifestation of the sons of God, because it is only then things will be restored to that state where God said it was very Good.
Until then the scripture says that the whole creation groans and travails in pain.

The Spiritual Apsect of Genesis 1 ds

Genesis 1:3–5 (NKJV)
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
There are two spiritual truths revealed in this passage.
This passage points to Chirst is symbolic (allusion) of Christ.
Just like God spoke light into this dark World, when the word became flesh, the true spiritual light came to the world.
John 1:1–9 (NKJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
Matthew 4:13–16 NKJV
13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: 15 The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: 16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.”
Before Christ came into the world, the world was in complete darkness.
Isaiah 59:9 NKJV
9 Therefore justice is far from us, Nor does righteousness overtake us; We look for light, but there is darkness! For brightness, but we walk in blackness!
Isaiah 59:15–16 NKJV
15 So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. 16 He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him.
2 Corinthians 4:5–6 (NKJV)
5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.
6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
THe light that has shone in our light is Christ.
Genesis 1:4–5 (NKJV)
4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
1 Thessalonians 5:5–8 (NKJV)
5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.
We are son of the Light and the day. Who is the Light and the day. Jesus Christ.
2. This passage reveal to us the spiritual realities in which this physical world is created.
Just like there is light and darkness in this world, day and night. There is God and the devil. Truth and lies, rigtheousness and sin and the rigtheous and the wicked.
God formed both the light and the darkness for his own purpose
Isaiah 45:7 NKJV
7 I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.’
Proverbs 16:4 NKJV
4 The Lord has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom.
God has created everything for his own purpose.
“And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
God has sepated the light from the darkness.
Both light and darkness dwell in the same creation but are separated.
They dwell together but don’t mingle. This a decree and a principle that God has set.
Those who live in the light should not mix with those who live in the darkness.
2 Corinthians 6:14–18 (NKJV)
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”
17 Therefore Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
Ephesians 5:5–13 NKJV
5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them. 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
What God has separated but saty separated.
We are the children of Light, and as children of light we must not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of Darkness.
We must not mix ourselves with the workd of darkness.
Our fruits must be the fruit of light and not the fruit of darkness.
The New Heaven and the New Earth
Revelation 21:22–27 NKJV
22 But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24 And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. 25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). 26 And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
In the New heaven and the New earth, there is no night becuase it refelctive of the spiritual realities in which it is created.
The devil has been defeated, all the children of darkness and their works has been detroyed by the eternal fir of the second death.
In this New heaven and the New earth, there is no unrigtheousness, nor deceit nor Evil. There is only truth, righteousnes and peace.
Until then though, while this world still stands there is evil, good, ritgheousness and sins.

Theological Aspect of Genesis 1

The nature of God is revealed to us in Genesis 1 dsds
God’s nature is revealed to be the Word and Spirit.
Genesis 1:1–3 (NKJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering (moving) over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
John 1:1 NKJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 4:24 NKJV
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Before the creation of this physical world was the invicible Word of God that created everything.
God (the creator) is defined to us the Word and Spirit.
God is Word but also eminates (Emit/ give out/ send forth) Word to create and accomplish his purpose. Much like the Sun that is light and eminates light to the world.
God is the word and eminates Word, and his word is Spirit, that is he is Spirit.
Psalm 33:6–9 (NKJV)
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses.
[Genesis 1:9 “9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.” ]
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
The Power of God’s word is demonstrated to us in Creation. God brought incredible things to existence out of nothing by only speaking it.
Each creation act begins by the phrase “God said” Verse 6,9,11,14,20,24,26
This visible creation was created by the invicible Word of God.
Hebrews 11:3 NKJV
3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
In the New Testament
This invicible Word by which God created everything became visible when it became flesh.
John 1:14 (NKJV)
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
the flesh (body) of God in which God was manifested/ revealed to this world. He is Jesus Christ.
The Son of God is the Word that was made flesh, the body in which all the fullness of God dwells and is revealed to man kind.
Colossians 1:13–17 (NKJV)
13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
“The first born over all creation”
Some have interpreted this passage to mean that God created first the SOn andthe through the son he created the world.
The scripture tells us that Son is the Word that became flesh, but before it became flesh it was the Word that was with God and was God. So how God God created himslellf.
So what did Paul mean
He was refering to Genesis 1, asd
Before the Visible world came to existes, God spoke the invisible Word by which he creted the visble world.
Example, before light (visible creation) came into existence, God spoke forth the Word “let there be light”.
The Word always pre-eminent creation, it comes before all creation. This applies both for the physical (visible) world and the spiritual (invisible) world.
So symbolically, God gave birth to the Word Which gave birth to creation.
IT is this creative Word that became flesh and was called the Son of God.
Therefore saying God created the World by his word and God created the World by his Son is the Same.
Genesis 1:26 NKJV
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Two Ways that this verse is used to teach that God is three person or trinity.
Looking at the hebrew Word for God.
The hebrew word translated God is ‘Elohim”
Elohim is always in plural form in hebrew translated as God reffering to the one true God and gods when reffering to idols.
people will say that since the Hebrew Word Elohim is plural then God must be plural in nature, he must be more than one person. he must be trinity.
If this is the case then you have to interprate other passages which use the word Elohim in the same way.
Exodus 7:1 (NKJV)
1 So the Lord said to Moses: “See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.
Does this mean Moses is a trnity. That within Moses there is plurality of person, because the same plural word “elohim” used in Genesis 1 is used here.
Elohim can refer to an individual or to multiply people, what defines it is the context of the passage.
The context
Genesis 1:27 (NKJV)
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
God is reffered to as he (singular pronoun) revealing that is is one person and the Male and female are reffered to as them (plural pronoun) because they are two person.
Matthew 19:4 (NKJV)
4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’
Why did God say let us ?
God is not plural in nature, he is one Indivisible God.
The three explanation or answers to this questions.
God is speaking to himslef or counseling himslef.
Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV)
11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,
We ourselves do this all the time. We say let’s go to the shop, let’s is abbrevated form let us. Does that mean we are three person
2. God is reffering to himself in majestic Form
Because is a King he reffers to himslelf as us to reflect to speak concerning himslef in majestic way.
The royal we, it is used by monarchs and sovereigns all the time ( look it up on the dictionary during streaming)
Biblical example of this
2 Chronicles 25:14–16 (NKJV)
14 Now it was so, after Amaziah came from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the people of Seir, set them up to be his gods, and bowed down before them and burned incense to them.
15 Therefore the anger of the Lord was aroused against Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought the gods of the people, which could not rescue their own people from your hand?”
16 So it was, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, “Have we made you the king’s counselor? Cease! Why should you be killed?” Then the prophet ceased, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not heeded my advice.”
