Translation

Now, the boy Samuel was a servant of Yahweh under Eli. The word of Yahweh was rare in those days. There were no outbreaks of visions. At that time, Eli lay down in his resting place. His eyes had deteriorated to faintness, and he was not able to see. The Lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel lay in the temple of Yahweh in where the ark of God was.
Yahweh called to Samuel, and he replied, “Here I am!”. He ran to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called to me.” He said, “I did not call you! Go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
Again, Yahweh called once more to Samuel. Samuel rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called to me.” He said, “I did not call you my child. Go back and lay down.” Now, Samuel had not yet come to know Yahweh. this was before the word of Yahweh had been made known to him.
Again, Yahweh called to Samuel for a third time. He rose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called to me.” Then Eli understood that Yahweh was calling to the boy. So Eli said to Samuel, “Go lay down . Now, if someone should call to you, you say ‘Speak Yahweh, for your servant is listening.” So Samuel went and laid down in his resting place.
Yahweh came and stood, and called as he had before, “Samuel! Samuel!” So Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
Yahweh said to Samuel, “Look: I am doing something in Israel which will make all who hear it tremble. On that day I will raise against Eli all that I spoke concerning his house, from the first to the last. I told him that I would judge his house forever for the transgressions which he knew about, for his sons cursed God and he did not restrain them. Therefore, I swear to the house of Eli that the transgression of Eli’s House will not be atoned for either with sacrifice or with offering forever.”
Now, Samuel slept until morning. Then, he opened the doors of the house of Yahweh. But Samuel was afraid to report the vision to Eli. Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my child.” He responded, “Here I am.”
He said, “What is the messages that was spoken to you? Please, do not hide it from me, or may God do to you even worse if you hide even one word from me which was spoken to you.” So Samuel reported to him all that was said. He did not hide anything from him. And Eli said, “He is Yahweh. He will do what is good in his eyes.”
Then Samuel grew. Yahweh was with him, and he let none of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel, from Dan to Ber-Sheba, knew that Samuel was a trustworthy prophet of Yahweh.
