You are the only thing that God ever made that has to be told to speak of His glory.
Psalm 19:1 ESV
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Heaven and earth shout what we barely whisper.
Psalm 19:2 ESV
Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
Every hour of the day is filled with words we barely make minutes to repeat.
Psalm 19:3 ESV
There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.
Psalm 19:4 ESV
Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,
The creation spreads across the cosmos a message we won’t take across the street.
Luke 19:36–38 ESV
And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
For one moment, people were doing what they should be doing!
Luke 19:39 ESV
And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
The glory of God is inconvenient for the schemes of man.
Luke 19:40 ESV
He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”
Silencing the glory of God would provoke the stones.
Romans 8:19–21 ESV
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
Why is the creation not what it should be?
The glory of God is being hidden.
Romans 8:22–23 ESV
For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
Why is humanity not what it should be?
The glory of God is being hidden.
2 Corinthians 4:1–2 ESV
Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
And so we speak, openly and with candor.
2 Corinthians 4:3–4 ESV
And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
If any will not hear, let it be because of the work of Satan to blind them rather than the failure of Christians to show them.
