Matthew 14:22-33
Jesus knew that the storm would come.
It didn’t catch Him by surprise.
He allowed them to enter the storm, for a specific purpose.
v.25
Fourth watch was about 3 and 6 am.
Jesus allowed them to fight the storm all night.
He didn’t come and rescue right away.
1 Peter 5:8–10 ESV
8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
God allows us to struggle for a time. He has a plan, He will come to the rescue.
But He allows us to struggle.
James 1:2–4 ESV
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James says we are to count it all joy!
The testing we go through is to make us perfect.
To get rid of the impurities that still exist within us.
This builds our faith in Him and gives us the strength we need to endure the war in this world.
v.28-30
Peter walked as long as his focus was on Jesus.
The storm was great, but the one who had called him was greater.
Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
They are called to have courage not becasue they are a fantastic army. But the one who is with them is greater.
v.33
Truly you are the son of God.
The point of the whole thing.
To give God glory.
To realize who Jesus was.
1 Peter 1:3–7 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
God is using the trials we go through, to grow our strength and confidence in Him!!
In the end, we want our lives to result in praise and glory and honor of Jesus.
