What makes a good leader?

Pre-1900’s

-intelligence
-height
-fluency
-extroversion
-winning personality

1900-1940’s

-people are parts to a larger machine
-workers must be standardized

-workers have individual gifts and abilities
-workers need attention from their supervisors

God’s Revelation of Leadership

John 5:19 ESV
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.

1. A leader looks to the will of the ultimate leader: God

What Makes a Good Leader for the Church?

Titus 1:6 ESV
if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination.
Titus 1:7 ESV
For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.

He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
