God has a calling on your life. He really wants you to be faithful to listen and steward the small things well because He actually has way bigger things in store for you when you're ready. Lastly, like David, you cannot wear someone else's armor when you go into battle.,

John 15:16

God has chosen you and appointed you for incredible things in his kingdom
Story of David before Goliath.
God tells Samuel He’s going to appoint a new king of Israel. Goes to Jesse’s house and Jesse bring all his sons.
After the first son Samuel thinks, “This has to be him”
God says: 1 Samuel 16:7
1 Samuel 16:7 ESV
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Goes through the rest of the sons and God says no to all of them. Samuel asks if there are any other sons. Jesse brings in David.
God Says: 1 Samuel 16:12-13
1 Samuel 16:12–13 ESV
And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.
David was 15 when he was anointed and it wasn’t until he was 30 that he actually became king. Sometimes there are steps before our higher calling is fulfilled. David kept being faithful in the field rather than getting entitled.
Meanwhile Saul is being tormented and says: 1 Samuel 16:16
1 Samuel 16:16 ESV
Let our lord now command your servants who are before you to seek out a man who is skillful in playing the lyre, and when the harmful spirit from God is upon you, he will play it, and you will be well.”
Someone mentions David so they bring him in.
David was faithful with music so God used it as a step towards David’s higher calling.
A few years later David is still in the fields and his dad tells him to bring food to his brothers on the battlefield. Gets there, hears Goliath’s speech and asks who does he think he is defying the armies of the living God.
David gets to talk to Saul one on one because he already had relationship with him through music because he had already been faithful with music when he was younger.
Says to Saul: 1 Samuel 17:36-37
1 Samuel 17:36–37 ESV
Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.” And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”
David was not confident in his physical strength against Goliath. He was confident in the authority and provision of God that he learned in the fields with the Lion and the Bear.
Saul gives him a chance but says: 1 Samuel 17:39-40
1 Samuel 17:39–40 ESV
and David strapped his sword over his armor. And he tried in vain to go, for he had not tested them. Then David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them.” So David put them off. Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd’s pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine.
You cannot wear someone else’s armor from God. Armor is your history and intimacy with God. Saul’s history with God was different than David’s history with God so Saul’s armor did not work on David.
Your relationship with Jesus cannot live under your parents, or youth group or friends. It has to be your own. Do you have your own armor with Jesus?
