The Second Advent:
Jesus Christ’s Future Ministry
Connecting the Dots Series

“Much as we strive for justice now, much as justice was secured at the cross of
Christ, we know that it is the last day that brings justice to complete resolution.
The Christian does not live so as to be found on the right side of history as
defined by men.
The Christian lives so as to be found on the right side of God
when He calls all to account before the Great White Throne.”
– Dr. Owen Strachan1
Christ As Returning Bridegroom:

John 14:1-4 - 1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s
house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and
prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
4 And
where I go you know, and the way you know.”

Revelation 19:6-9 - 6 And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters
and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia!
For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!
7 Let us be glad
and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”
8
And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the
saints.
9 Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And
he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”

Christ As Judge:
1.) Christ will judge ___________ from his judgement seat (Rm 14:9-12;4 2 Cor 5:9-11)5
2.) Christ will judge every ___________ for their works (1 Cor 3:9-15;6 4:1-5)7
3.) Christ will judge _______________ unto eternal death/punishment (Rev 20:11-15)8

Romans 14:9-12 - 9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both
the dead and the living.
10 But why do you judge your brother?
Or why do you show contempt for your brother?
For
we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written:
“As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”
12
So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.

2 Corinthians 5:9-11 - 9 Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to
Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the
body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
11 Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we
persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.
Corinthians 3:9-15 - 9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.
10
According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and
another builds on it.
But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than
that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious
stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be
revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.
14 If anyone’s work which he has built on
it endures, he will receive a reward.
15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be
saved, yet so as through fire.

1 Corinthians 4:1-5 - 1 Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of
God.
Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.
3 But with me it is a very small thing that I
should be judged by you or by a human court.
In fact, I do not even judge myself.
4 For I know of nothing against
myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He who judges me is the Lord. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the time,
until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the
hearts.
Then each one’s praise will come from God.

Revelation 20:11-15 - 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the
earth and the heaven fled away.
And there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great,
standing before God, and books were opened.
And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life.
And the
dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
13 The sea gave up the
dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them.
And they were judged, each one
according to his works.
14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire.
This is the second death.
15 And
anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
