Each year, the AG encourages all those in the Fellowship to begin the year with prayer and fasting.
This year the theme is Awesome! Exploring the Nature and Names of Jesus
Over the next week of our prayer and fasting we will continue to think about Jesus through His Names and Titles — as we have since the beginning of 2021.
We have seen Jesus as:
The Amen
The Arm of God
The One Who is True
Author
Beloved
Defender and Refuge
Bright Morning Star
Our Hope set before us
The Lion of the Tribe of Judah
Our Chief Cornerstone
Our Mediator & High Priest
Our All in All
Altogether Lovely
Beloved Son
Bread of God
Balm of Gilead
Baptizer in the Holy Spirit
Bridegroom
Blessed and Only Potentate
Captain of Our Salvation
There is a devotional book that you can use with this week of prayer.
Awesome! Exploring the Nature and Names of Jesus
Today’s devotion from the book is summarized on our prayer guide:
Jesus is Supreme over all creation — may my life be wholly submitted to Him.
The scripture to consider is:
Hebrews 3:1–6 The Message
1 So, my dear Christian friends, companions in following this call to the heights, take a good hard look at Jesus. He’s the centerpiece of everything we believe, 2 faithful in everything God gave him to do. Moses was also faithful, 3 but Jesus gets far more honor. A builder is more valuable than a building any day. 4 Every house has a builder, but the Builder behind them all is God. 5 Moses did a good job in God’s house, but it was all servant work, getting things ready for what was to come. 6 Christ as Son is in charge of the house. Now, if we can only keep a firm grip on this bold confidence, we’re the house!
The author of the book, Dick Eastman says:
… there is nothing more central to our quest than recognizing and pursuing the supremacy of Jesus Christ. He is first and foremost the Supreme Jesus.
Eastman tells us to consider:
Colossians 1:15–18 NLT
15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. 18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.
As we go to the Lord in prayer, let us ask ourselves the question:
Is Jesus first in everything in my life?
