What Are You?
I was recently having a conversation with a young person who told me that they were looking to change their style in their dress.
They had gotten a job as a professional and really enjoyed it.
But started to realize that everyone around them dressed professional and they dressed like they were still in college.
(as they put it) I was excited to hear this from that person because I know them and that is a big step for them to say.
As we move into 2022.
I want to ask you a simple question for you to chew on for the month, are looking to improve on your life in 22. Are looking to get better.
What does that look like to you.
In order to accomplish any goal you have to see it and then write it down.
Let me say that again.
See it and then write it down.
There is the story of major company who was in the red the chairman of TLC Beatrice International Holdings, Loida Lewis has made a habit of defying the odds.
After the 1993 death of her husband, Reg Lewis, it was widely assumed that his widow would remain a silent partner.
She didn’t.
Holding more than 50 percent of the stock, Lewis announced that she was taking over the $2.1-billion snack-food and grocery business.
Wall Street thought the inexperienced Lewis would surely flop.
She didn’t.
Instead she recharged Beatrice, which was mired in debt, and returned the company to the black.
As part of her management style, she writes down managers’ assigned tasks on a chalkboard, erasing each entry as the job is completed.
“I know where I want this company to go,” she says,” and I know how I want to get there.”
- Thomas McCarroll in Time
Goals need directions, tell them where you want them to go.
Listen if you do what God says to do, what He has put in your spirit to do, then you will see benefits of your obedience.
Don’t try to see things through your own eyes you’ll miss it every time.
There is a great tale of a football game Eye on the Ball
One time when Michigan State was playing UCLA in football, the score was tied at 14 with only seconds to play.
Duffy Daugherty, Michigan State’s coach, sent in place kicker Dave Kaiser who booted a field goal that won the game.
When the kicker returned to the bench, Daugherty said, “nice going, but you didn’t watch the ball after you kicked it.”
“That’s right, Coach,” Kaiser replied.
“I was watching the referee instead to see how he’d signal it.
I forgot my contact lenses, and I couldn’t see the goal posts.”
You can’t see what God can see, you can’t do what God can do.
But if you do your part then He can do His.
Amen!
Goals need to be realistic, don’t say what you really don’t mean.
I can remember when I was younger being approached by some individuals who had a MLM company and they would try to sell me on the idea that I could get rich like the people at the top if I just did what they did.
Well the problem was everybody wants the money but no one wants to do the work.
So I would always ask them wait but how much time did he/she put into?
Tell what they would do - the umm and huh stuff.
See the problem wasn’t going to be them, they would get my money and my time.
The problem was going to be me.
Because I never really had the desire to go out there and do that.
I knew what I wanted to do and so that’s where my energy needed to be focused on.
Like a horse running a race they put blinders on it and that fixes its eyes on what’s in front of it.
The finish line, the goal to hat you have set out to do.
Finish it my friends what God has called you too!
Listen to this Expectations
Most of us do not accomplish much because we do not expect to accomplish very much.
• A. B. Simpson indicated the majority of us when he said, “Our God has boundless resources.
The only limit is in us.
Our asking, our thinking, our praying are too small.
Our expectations are too limited.”
• J. Hudson Taylor observed, “Many Christians estimate difficulties in the light of their own resources, and thus attempt little and often fail in the little they attempt.”
Goals need to be worked, If you don’t work it, it can’t be achieved.
Alice in Wonderland
In Alice in Wonderland, when Alice comes to a junction in the road that leads in different directions, she asks the Cheshire Cat, “Cheshire-Puss...would you tell me please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to go to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where,” replied Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”
If you want true success at whatever you are trying to do, you have to put in the work, that means get up early, go to bed late, sometimes miss lunch and maybe even dinner.
You have to be willing to put in the work.
It’s not going to come to you, you have to go and get it.
Listen get away from people where they just talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, about what they are going to do.
They’re going to do nothing!
Because they are to busy talking!
Some of you need to put down your electronic devices.
They are destroying your creativity!
All everyone is doing is talking, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.
About nothing worth while.
There is a story involving Yogi Berra, the well-known catcher for the New York Yankees, and Hank Aaron, who at that time was the chief power hitter for the Milwaukee Braves.
The teams were playing in the World Series, and as usual Yogi was keeping up his ceaseless chatter, intended to pep up his teammates on the one hand, and distract the Milwaukee batters on the other.
As Aaron came to the plate, Yogi tried to distract him by saying, “Henry, you’re holding the bat wrong.
You’re supposed to hold it so you can read the trademark.”
Aaron didn’t say anything, but when the next pitch came he hit it into the left-field bleachers.
After rounding the bases and tagging up at home plate, Aaron looked at Yogi Berra and said, “I didn’t come up here to read.”
That man said I didn’t come to read!
I came to put in the work!
That’s why he hit it out the park!
Listen to me guys, God wants you to go fast, further and be more focused this year then ever before.
The question you need to seriously ask yourself is this.
How much do you really want it?
How much are you really willing to change to get it.
Finally much are you willing to allow God to take you there so you can have it.
I want to close with this last verse
Listen all the teacher is saying here is get it in now, because you can’t later.
To many times we’ve heard or seen the person who talks about what they wanted to do but didn’t have the time to do.
Now they are gone on to glory.
I know of a story of a man who wished he would’ve oh but he could’ve, now it’s too late and those around his casket said oh he just should’ve.
The moral to the saying is this.
You can talk about it, or you can be about.
What are you going to do? Are you going ot do new in 22?
Let’s Pray.
