Passion for His Purpose

Purpose

something set up as an object or end to be attained, Webster’s Dictionary

Passion for His purpose what is God’s purpose in the earth?  What end does He want to attained?

We hear and read a lot about “purpose” these days, the best selling book; “The Purpose Driven Life” all about our purpose.

People seem to have a great passion for their purposes, but what about passion for His purpose.

What is His Purpose?

God’s main objective and purpose in the earth is His church.  So what are some of the objectives that God wants to see in His church.

Matthew 16:16-18 (ESV)
16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

The word “church” comes from the Greek word “Eccesilia” meaning “called out ones”.

People who are called out from something to something.

Ephesians 1:3-14 (ESV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Remember Abram was call out of the land of the “Chaldeans” to an un-known place.  This began God’s process of His purpose in the Earth was to call out those who would follow and obey Him in order that His Glory and purposes would be known and done through out the Earth..

Isaiah 60:1-3 (ESV)
1 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. 2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. 3 And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

Here we read a prophecy of Isaiah about God’s ultimate purpose and intent, the glory of the Lord filling the Earth.

We’ve all been called to be ministers and priest in this Purpose in the earth.

Revelation 1:4-6 (ESV)
4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

2 Corinthians 5:16-21 (ESV)
16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Jesus came to heal the broken hearted and to give liberty to those in bondage and to proclaim the year of God’s favor.

Here we see Jesus’ purpose, this was God’s purpose in and through Jesus.  Passion for His purpose means I want to heal the broken hearted set a liberty those who are held captive and proclaim God’s mercy, grace and forgiveness.

Our number one purpose in the earth is to advance the kingdom of God through the church, to bring the “good news” of reconciliation to all who need it and build up the body of Christ in the earth until His glory fills the whole earth.

Romans 12:3-8 (ESV)
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

As Jesus Christ as the body of God went about fulfilling the purposes of God in the Earth, we as the body of “Christ” must be about the work of continuing to fulfill His purpose in the earth.

Remember a Passion for His presence, will develop and passion for His purpose, which is to have a passion for His people.

Next week developing a passion for His people:
