CIT: Wherever Jesus goes the Kingdom of God goes, and our entrance into this Kingdom is by faith alone.

The unbelief of the religious
The belief of the outcast

The unbelief of the religious (Matt. 9:14-17, 34)

John the Baptist Disciple’s refusal to submit
These disciples come to Jesus asking a question that is rooted in unbelief in who Jesus actually is. They come expecting Jesus to act “religious” like they do.
The OT Law only required the people of Israel fast once a year during The Day of Atonement, but both the Pharisee’s and the disciples of JtB made a regular practice of fasting, sometimes even multiple times a week **See Jesus’ teaching on fasting in Matt. 6** They trusted that their way of doing religion was what had secured their spot in the Kingdom of God.
This is why Jesus says that new wine cannot be put into old wineskins. Meaning that the old ways won’t work. In Christ’s coming he has brought with him the new way of entering into the Kingdom of God, that is by submitting to Jesus by faith alone.
JtB even told his disciples that Jesus was the one who is bringing this new way into God’s Kingdom, John 1:29, 3:25-30
Are you willing to submit to the new way of entering into God’s Kingdom? Or are you still trying to trust in your own religious ways?
The Pharisee’s jealousy
Now, at the end of this section, after Jesus has healed and exercised a mute man, the Pharisee’s try to diminish the work of Jesus with a lie.
This is evidence to their jealousy that Jesus is getting the attention and spotlight instead of them.
Here is my question to you. are you more interested in having the attention for what happens in your life? Or will you have the same spirit that JtB had in saying, “He must increase, and I must decrease. John 3:30

The belief of the outcast (Matt. 9:18-33)

The synagogue leader’s daughter
What made this person outcast?
She was the daughter, which is the lowest in the household
She was dead, dead bodies are unclean, and touching a dead body would make you unclean
Why was she raised to life?
Jesus made her alive
The bleeding woman
What made this person outcast?
She had a hemmorage, which was most likely her period. According to OT law a woman on her period is unclean for at least a week. She had been having this for 12 YEARS!
Touching a woman on her period would make you unclean as well.
Why was she healed?
Her faith
The blind men
What made these people outcasts?
these two men were disabled because of their blindness. People with disabilities were often outcast because they were considered worthless because they couldn’t work. And because they were outcast they could not stay ritually clean, therefore coming into contact would most likely make you unclean as well.
Why were they healed?
Their faith
The mute and oppressed man
Why was this person and outcast?
Again because of his disability, which in this case was caused by demonic oppression. Touching someone who is demon oppressed would make you unclean.
Why was this person healed?
Jesus showed him mercy.

Conclusion

So, are you going to submit to Jesus and his way for his glory, or are you going to keep trying it your own way for your glory?
Look at the the consistent thread that is running through these miracles It’s that of Ephesians 2:1-9
Ephesians 2:1–9 ESV
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
We were dead. But God being rich in mercy made us alive and by grace through faith in Christ alone we have been saved into his Kingdom. This is the new way we enter into the Kingdom. submission to Jesus through faith by God’s grace and mercy.
