Angels.

All right, we have the the reading this morning. It's taken from Exodus chapter 2 verses 7 to 10. The sermon. This morning is the Willing Helper and it's something I'll look at Joseph's life and it's a call to each and everyone of us to be helpers. Well, throughout the Bible, we see helpers and they come in many different forms. And is this case? It's the sister of Moses. So let's let's read on his sister. Moses's. Sister asked Pharaoh's daughter and I shall I go get to one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you. Yes, go, she answered. And so the girl went and took the baby's mother Pharaoh's daughter said to her, take this baby and nurse him for me and I will pay you. And so the woman took the baby and nursed him when the child Grew Older, she took him into took him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him, Moses saying, I drew him out of the water. And we serve God and many different ways. Ed will look at a few today and hopefully encourage each of you that service to him is is a blessing for our lives. Alright a few prayer requests. We have a lot of people on vacation and we need to pray for them. But one prays that we have is Leona. Our dear Leona is here today, and that's incredible, answer to prayer. So praise the Lord for that tornado. Victims, of course in Kentucky and Missouri, a real disaster fell and we need to pray for their recovery of their morning. Karen Lanier goes in for surgery tomorrow replacement for her knee. So we need to be in prayer for her and Michael McCaskey, McCaffrey. He is in Eugene hospital with covid, real struggle there. So we need to be in prayer for them. So, let's go to prayer.

Precious father, Mighty and true and holy, are you for? You are our King, our guide and our strength than we. Thank you. And praise you. That you love us dearly and desire to hear from us and bother. You do answer each and every prayer that is made help us to trust that your answer is the very best dancer. Lord of the burden of our hearts in the desire, is that the people of our community that do not know you as Lord and Savior would come to that point of recognizing the Deep need of their heart. And thinking this way, we also need to remember that you have commissioned each and every one of us who have trusted in Christ to be a witness. Of who you are to us. That we might share in. That didn't help those of our community who don't know. You to come to know you and change the direction of their eternity and father, we pray for their loss. We also recognize the struggles of life in the difficulties that we faced with the, the things that come our way again. We want to remember the people, lucky and Missouri, who have gone through these, this terrible tornado experience. We know that many were lost. And so we pray for those who mourn that you would that be there to comfort and draw people to yourself. We also pray for those in Murray that you would heal and restore what was lost with, pray for your strength. And all of this. We want to remember Karen as she goes into surgery tomorrow. I know that she was a bit nervous about this one, but we pray that you would be with her, to lift her up and we pray for your healing touch on her life and that she would find recovery quick and easy that flexibility to return. We also think of Michael is he is has struggled with health issues, and we know that this is a difficult one. We pray for your touch on his body and you're restoring power to bring him back to full health. Father, we also recognize that there are a lot of people in our community that are struggling right now. I know of a mint on in of Johnson and Ellen. And there are certain others in our community right now, who were

Struggling with the restoration from health issues. We are in the flu season in this. Is it very common? This time of year? We also want to remember those who are away from us today and will be returning to our community shortly, and we pray for your hand of Guiding Light, to bring them safely home from that Journey. Father, you are our strength in every way. I know that there are unspoken request that are out there that haven't been mentioned when we pray for each of those requests that you would meet the need. And the people would see your Mighty hand moving in their lives and helping to encourage them in their walk. With you. May, you guide and bless. And now, as we continue in the service, we do, pray for your Mighty hand to guide us and throw us close to you as we praises to your name and listen to the power of your word working. In each of our hearts. Lester. So Lord in the name of Jesus. Amen. Yeah, it's it's a great opportunity for us as we have to sing praises to the Living God and I know that sometimes it's tough to waste these things. This is not normal for me to be the one to stand up and Lead You In These, but it's an opportunity for us to recognize God and his mighty work that happened two thousand years ago that continues to lead each of our lives. So we're going to be singing number 182 and It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.

Gloria song.

Call work.

And you live.

A big wave with me.

Do we read and hear the angels?

Morelos.

Where and what time?

Randolph.

Red nose.

Thank you, dear. Alright, pig is super charge time. Yeah.

Alright, well, let's start with weird.

Father in Heaven, how we thank you that you are here in our midst. We know that you are here because you are with each and every person who is called upon you to be their lord and savior you dwell in each of our hearts and you guide our thoughts and actions. And so we thank you for your spirit who does guide and Lead our loss. And we pray that you would be touching each of our hearts. That as we look at your word and grow in understanding of it, that we would take that the heart and apply it to our lives that we can draw near to you. father, we pray that your spirit would touch me because you alone are the power in the strain and you're the one that guides and wisdom and understanding. So may everything that you have laid upon my heart and that you guide me to speak, the day would come forth with power and strength from you. Oh mighty God, in Jesus name, we ask these things. Amen. Well, we are working through a series and taking a look at the steps that we see people take in life when God calls them. And one of the things that each of us needs to understand and know is that if you have asked Jesus Christ to be your lord and savior, your life is been changed. You are new and renewed in him and you didn't do anything for it. God gave it to you because of his grace and mercy in his life, but that doesn't leave you to just say, okay. Well I did that and I'm good for the rest of my life know God has called each and every one of us to be involved in life for him in this world. You're still here because he wants to use you for the kingdom of God and we all I'll become helpers in this way. Sometimes. It's like Miriam who is Moses's sister? And she just kind of watching over her little brother and guiding those circumstances. And we'll take a look at Joseph today and his different calling and sometimes we have different call me. We all have jobs that we are required to do in this life, but there are certain things that God has called for each and every believer to be involved in their lives. You have a responsibility towards God because you've given your life over to him. You said, you are my Lord and King, right? Well, if he's Ward and King, then he has things that he asked you to do. I'll give you three of them, that are really important. The first one is, God wants you to come to grow. Find him and know him more and more. Everyday.

Are we seeking him? Are we involved in studying his word? Are we involved in seeking to grow in him? And you're sitting here today? So yeah, there is some semblance of your desire to know him and growing him, a little more. Each day. As Paul says, knowing him is the prize at the end of our Lives. Coming to know him more and more is very important that we have ways. We can do that. Of course, being here is one of them being involved. In studies is another, you know, taking your Bible out. Each day in reading through it helps you draw closer to him prayer. Coming to a Bible study, like the men's bible study or even like we pick it back up or Bible study here on Wednesday. So, those are important things to be involved in to help us grow and know him. So that's one of those. Another one of those things is that you are to be involved in the growth and understanding of other believers. That's part of your responsibility. God says, I have work for you to do. That is part of the work that you have to do to help others grow in their life. So it's not just you that needs to grow, but it's you helping others to also make that grow in life. And so we need to be involved in each person's life as we can weather. It sucks ministering to your own children, whether it's teaching a Sunday school class, whether it's preaching a sermon or being involved in the music or other aspects. Those are things that helped lead, people closer to you. So being involved in other people's lives is really important. God says, we build up the fullness as we work together. In Christ. In the last thing that God asks each and every one of us to do because we have been changed. He wants us to help others become changed and why? You know, God wants us to not sit by ourselves and say okay. I got it done. Now. I can just live my life as I want. No God calls us in the second show fifth chapter of 2nd Corinthians to be reconcilers to Jesus Christ. In other words to help others. Come to know what you have come to know. Those are all very important things for our lives. And those are things that involve our relationship with the Living. God. You can't be walking with God. And not at least have those things penetrating your heart. Why? Because if you have the spirit of the Living God living in you He is wanting to change your life. I not one of us has reached the peak that we're all on that destination right now and that we all need to be encouraging each other in that grow. Well, we're going to take a look at somebody who is going through the process in the scripture right now. That's Joseph. We're going to take a look at his life and how God chose to use him. Now, one of the things that you need to understand about Joseph as we go through this process, is he wasn't man, that was Desiring to walk closely with God. He wanted to be righteous in his actions and you'll see that as we go through this passage on an interesting passage will be in Matthew. Chapter 1 verses 18 to 25 will read the first couple of verses they are though. And here we have a guy that is really confused in the question. Have you ever been confused in your life? Been at a point? And it just doesn't seem like there is any direction that is a good direction and it all seems wrong and futile. I know that I have been there and I'm pretty certain that each and every one of us have hit those moments in our lives. Where do we go in those times? Well, that's right. This is how the birth of Jesus. The Messiah came about is Mother. Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph. But before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph, her husband was faithful to the law and yet did not want to expose her to Public Disgrace. He had in mind to divorce her quietly. Okay, here is Joseph He is wanting to do the right thing in. Knowing god. He's a righteous man. And he doesn't want to be staying. He is been engaged, which is really and those times a free marriage contract with Miriam cell. He loved her loves her and he wants to treat her right? But here, he finds that his wife-to-be is already pregnant. How does this come about? Remember that one? We looked at Mary last week. And when we look at Mary, we found out that she was approached by the angel Gabriel and the angel Gabriel told her that she would bear a child through the Holy Spirit. Okay. So here she is. And she's also is told. Well your your cousin Elizabeth is pregnant. She's an old lady and yet she's pregnant and she goes to see Elizabeth and is gone for 3 months when she comes back. She's probably got a little bit of a bulge and people are going to notice that certainly Joseph had and he recognizes here's this girl that I loved and made a contract with is now pregnant. And what am I going to do? Lord? I I love her but you know, I'm a righteous man and I I want to get involved in the situation that leads me into an unrighteous path as so, how do I resolve this? How do I resolve this situation?

We're going to take a look at David just as he wrote a number of the Psalms in his Psalm 69. He goes through the same process. He's playing from saw. He doesn't know what to do. Remember, he goes to the Philistines to get help and he's gets chased out of there and then he finds up the ends up living in a cave. Wondering what in the world is life all about. Well, he restated some 69 versus one of me. Oh God. For the waters. Have come up to my neck. I think in the Miry depths where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep Waters, the floods in golf me and that's the way David felt and I'm sure that Joseph is feeling the same thing here. I had my life planned out for me. I have this good job as a carpenter. I have this marriage. I set up with this wonderful woman that I thought was a Raichu. Woman. And now I find out she is pregnant. And what, what do I do? God, how do I go from here, you know, again, those our struggles and sometimes we face in this life and what do we do with those struggles? It's a dilemma that we all have and it was a dilemma that was actually created by God because God allowed Mary to be conceived. But really didn't tell Joseph ahead of time that this was going to happen. He wanted to Joseph to somehow work through this process a little bit, but it's a dilemma. Remember. A Jesus came to Mary and he says, in Luke 123, you will conceive and give birth to a son and you are to call him Jesus. Okay, so he's facing this dilemma and he's got this woman that's pregnant and he doesn't want to harm her but he wants to be a righteous guy. I'm so he moves along now that the father of this child is the Living. God. But Joseph doesn't know this. All the Joseph knows is that she's pregnant by another guy. She thought she loved. She loved him. And then she goes off to Jerusalem and she somehow comes home pregnant. How did this happen? And so he's got this going through his mind in. John 10:30, is says, I and the father are one Jesus and the father are one. Jesus is coming the Earth through the power of the spirit and the father of the Living. God then yet. There is a struggle there. It's not amazing that God is so deeply involved in this and yet there is a battle Among Us and sometimes we get to that point in life where we're facing struggles and trials and try to figure it out on her own and that's what Joseph is trying to do. He's trying to figure out how do I deal with this on my own?

When we really need to just simply trust that God is directing this fast as best we can, but it's pretty tough. When the Earthly circumstances don't seem to be telling the truth. And so, He begins to think. Okay, I can divorce her quietly and get away with this. Remember. It's the Commandments in the Old Testament, in Deuteronomy. Remember God came to Moses and then Moses was delivering all these how we ought to live our lives to the Jews before they enter the promised land Deuteronomy 20:4 1. He says, if a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he find some indie, something indecent about her and he writes her a certificate of divorce. Okay, and that's what Joseph was contemplating. He was thinking okay. I couldn't write her a certificate of divorce that way. I don't bring judgment upon her by myself. I just simply send her on her way of that way. There was another option, you know, we had three options either Mary or yeah, either divorce or like this, or he could have taken there before the Elders of the community and

accused her of adultery. And then she would have been Stoned by the community. That was the other option. So he's fighting through all of this. It's a struggle. We've been there. Haven't we struggles in life, and not understanding God's direction for where we are and yet, it's there. Well, there's resolution resolution to that struggle and we'll see that. Now as we carry on it says, but after he had considered this, a Matthew 1:20 and 21 math. Yeah. After we consider this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name, Jesus, because he say he will save his people from their sins, you know. That is a wonderful resolution that Joseph had and it kind of clears up some of the things that God has been doing in their lives, but there are sometimes we face those and most the time we face those things without an angel showing up to give us wisdom and understanding in the things we do. Oh we have to trust that God is involved. Jason it gives Jake Joseph. Hope now, but there was another time in That well, I'll get to that buddy in Isaiah. It. It does give us hope when we go to the Living. God gives me Isaiah 40:31 says but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary. They will not walk and not faint. And sometimes we are human. We wonder why, how is this really from the Lord? I remember, in, in Greece, they put a lot of thought into their dreams and occasionally, they would come to me. And they did say, hey, I had this dream and what do you think about my dream? And so, you know, I'd have to do some real praying to be able to give them wisdom and in helping to understand what God was Telling me about those dreams, but your Joseph is he has a dream an angel has come to him and gives him clear wisdom. And remember His Hope was in the Lord. He wanted to be righteous. He wanted to be holy and so God answered that request here in this this wonderful way. There are times in life when an angel is an absolute necessity to get the job done. And we see that occasionally through scripture that Angels show up and say, okay. Here's the pathway, you need to go and most of the time people will listen to those angels. One time in Acts 12 Peter is has been arrested by Herod, you know where it is thinking that things are going well for, Amy rist, Peter throws him into jail, and condemned him to death and he's in there. Ready to be committed to his death sentence. And what is he doing? Is sleeping away. He's probably snoring loudly. And all of a sudden Acts chapter 12, verse 7 is is suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared in light Shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up quick. Get up. He said and it changed Peters wrist. Amazing Story, I hear he is ready to die and yet he's sleeping away content. It if you were, God wants him. But God didn't want him there. And it took an angel to say, wake up time to move, and he has to strike him on the side, to wake him up to get him to move out. Then, he doesn't really think about what happened until he's actually outside in the street. And looking around the saying. Wow, what what just happened? Well, and Angel guided him. And sometimes we have to think through that process. Most of us aren't Guided by Angels though, and we need to think through these problems on her own. Bonnaroo noticed. One of the things that helped Joseph understand this as he continued on, he took Mary, but but is the idea that God came and told him that the name of the child was going to be Jesus. Now, think about this a little bit. Remember back to Luke chapter, 11 31, verse 31, the angel Gabriel says, Mary. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you were to call him. Jesus. Will think about this a little bit. Joseph is kind of dwelling on these things in his mind and you begin to talk to Marion says, Hey, listen to I had a dream last night. An angel showed up and talked to me in the dream and In in the conversation, probably the name of the child came up. So that Mary says, yeah. Yeah. I had an angel come to me too. And he told me that I was going to have a child by him and he gave me the name, or what. Did he want you to call him? Jesus? Oh, well, that's what he wanted me to call this baby. So it's kind of a confirmation of what goes on in, and we, as people need, those confirming ideas and they happen in our lives. When Mary and I were called to go to Greece and I was we were praying about it and asking, God give us wisdom in them, whether this is what we are supposed to do. And so we

Yeah. On the in, on them in November during the Thanksgiving break. We went to Greece and said, Lord, you know, give us wisdom weather. This is what you're calling us to do. And I had the opportunity to speak at a gathering of people in, and the two people came forward to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and it seems okay. That's a bit of confirmation. We went back one. Last time when we got to the Easter break, for when we were in Budapest Hungary and I noticed one of the guys he was a 90 year old guy and he was sitting at a table in a restaurant. And so Mary and I went up and we sat down with him and started talking with him and he said, I had a wonderful experience, this young man and woman team and they talked to us about Jesus Christ and knowing him as my Lord and Savior. And he says, my life was changed. When I asked Jesus Christ to be my Lord, and Saviour. I was having terrible dreams and convictions, and, and he said, all of a sudden my life was changed. And I, I'm just so joyful about what happened. Well, he didn't recognize Mary Ann died that we were involved in that, but it was confirmation from the Lord that okay. This is where I want you to be. And so we have the opportunity to go and Minister and roads for three and a half years and wonderful experience, but that was a confirmation of where were you going in? And, of course, Joseph needed confirmation that this was the case for him.

You know, he was also told that this was very important that this person was going to make a difference in the people and certainly that is the experience that Mary had as well. And when they talk together about this child, they recognized that he was going to be one. Who would change the world. Aunt.

Jesus died for every person on Earth. You may be here and you may know Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. You may not know Jesus Christ as your lord and savior, but that doesn't mean he didn't die for you. If you don't know it. It just means that you haven't made the choice to follow him and he wants you to follow him. Jesus was talking about this and John chapter 10, and he said these were I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them all so they too will. Listen to my voice and there shall be one flock and one Shepherd. It was talking about Israel, the people of Israel and the Gentiles that were to come and no, Jesus Christ. Maybe you haven't come to know Jesus Christ as your lord and savior, but that doesn't mean you aren't being called even today to come and know him as Lord and savior. We'll all this is fulfilled. And so Joseph continues on here and let's read that. Final portion verses 2225 of the conclusion of this all this took place to fulfill with the Lord. It said, for the prophet the Virgin will conceive and give birth with son and they will call him Immanuel. Which means god with us. When Joseph woke up. He did with the angel of the Lord commanded him. And he took Mary home as his wife, but he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son and he gave him the name Jesus. Yeah, this is the answer to Isaiah's prophecy to a to a King that really wasn't following God. But God said, you know, I want to give you a sign and so I'm going to give you a sign even though you don't want one and this was the sign he gave him Isaiah 7:14. Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. The Virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel god with us. And so this is another answer for Joseph to see God's work in all of this. Now. I mentioned the fact that Doug. That sometimes we face circumstances like this and we don't necessarily have an angel show up for us. I don't know if any of you have ever had an angel show up. I have not that I know of, but there are times when we Face these circumstances. Do we still trust in the Living God and going back to Israel or Judah. In the time of Hezekiah the king, he was the ruler, he wanted to serve God. He'll be neatly serve God. And in almost everything he did and yet the Assyrian army attacked his country. And they attacked it, and they drove through this land. As matter, fact, they conquered everything in the land except one City Jerusalem Jerusalem, you know, and if you talk about experiences in your life, where everything seems overwhelming, imagine somebody coming along and literally wiping out everything around you except where you are. Are you still going to trust God? Well as it kind of did in, I say 88, it says about the Assyrian army. This is a prediction by Isaiah before it happened. It says the end, they will sweep on into Judah, swirling over it passing through it and reaching up to the neck. It's outspread, wings will cover the breadth of your land Emmanuel and it did Cover the rest of the land, but God was still there. If you remember the continuing of the story of Hezekiah, didn't hesitate, he continue to worship the God and trust in him, even through all the struggles. And so God did send an angel. And he went out and he destroyed the armies of Assyria and brought them low and so they left the land. What the waters were up to his neck just as they are sometimes for us and we continue to trust in God. Do we live in obedience to what he has to say for us and that's God's call for each of Our Lives, you know, he wants to lead us to that point where we will obey and trust him. No matter what the circumstances are that surround us and that's where he had Joseph. Are you going to listen to me and obey me or you going to go your own way? As Jesus was talking to disciples in the end, one of the keys that he guided them to was this, if you love me, keep my Commandments John 14:15. If you love me, keep my Commandments.

One of those got one of those commands of God is that you listen to him and you do what he tells you to do. Joseph, listen and he became the protector of God In the Flesh as a little baby. He became the protector of Mary. His mother remember taking a woman that was known to be pregnant apart from the marriage certainly caused the people of the community to look at Marion to stain and even Joseph into staying at this point. This was wrong. It was unrighteous. It was Unholy. And yet he chose to take that burden on himself and later on as they married and went off to Bethlehem and they had the child, they were visited by angels. And when the Angels left, I mean, visit by Wiseman and when the wise men left, the angel came to them again. Matthew 2:13, when they the wise men had gone an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream get up. He said take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt stay there until I tell you where Harriet is going to search for the child to kill him. And of course he did, as you might remember the story, he sent his soldiers to kill every child. That was 2 years old and younger and great grief was brought to that Community because of herod's anger against God. Remember that Satan has a desire to destroy the plans of God, and he certainly wanted to destroy Jesus Christ because he knew that God coming to Earth would make a huge difference. And yet, God protected him in all these ways. What's again, God's called each of us? That know, him as Lord and Savior to be a helper in our community. Now, it may not be a helper. Is Joseph was, how many of us are going to guard the Living? God, none of us are but he does call us to do a number of other things and those things are important. Remember, what I told you, there are three things that each of us is responsible to be involved in one, is our spiritual growth. We need to be trying in our lot to grow more and more closer to the Living. God to know Jesus Christ with greater Assurance each day. So I asked yourself. Am I doing that? Is that part of what I'm doing in this life or am I sleeping that off? Is something that is not important in my life. Remember to God, that's that's an important. Part of your life. I know we all have jobs and we all have things we need to do. But seeking God is important to am. I helping others to grow and know him? That's the second part. I can't be involved in those things. You can be involved in this thing. Are you is that part of your agenda? And finally am I helping others to know the true path of lie? Because there are a lot of people that are lost in our community that are going to hell, some of them are our relatives. Some of them are dear friends. Others are just acquaintances. But there's a battle that is going on for their lives. Satan wants to hold on to them. And you may be the passage that God wants to use to help them. Come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and we need to be open to that in our lives. For we can make a difference. In the hearts. And lots of people. These are all things that God calls each of us to do. They're not things that. Oh, yeah, Pastor Don is supposed to do it. But, you know, it's not know. These are all things that each and every one of us are called to be involved in. So make through those thing.

I think through those things and help help yourself to understand, God has work for you to do and it's to serve him in this Kingdom.

Precious father, we thank you for your word that is powerful and strong and truly can make a difference in our lives as we trust you. Biggest wisdom to it. Everything in scripture is important because it's your words. Yeah, I'm so as we examine it and we turn it around and see what it says. Father. May we be responsive to it? And may we step up and follow your lead to do that, what you call this to do to be faithful and true helpers of others. And it begins with a willingness to step up and grow and know you more as well.
