INTRODUCTION: The song silent night is a lie! So is sleeping like a baby. .......Bethany Joy?

Jesus turns worry into joy.

Luke 2:6 ESV
6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.
they were there - it wasn’t like she was going into labor on the way.
there - Bethlehem.
Give birth - haha story.
Luke 2:7 ESV
7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
her firstborn son - you would expect it more from Joseph. But her.
and she gave birth - very nonchalant.
Swaddling cloths - what they wrapped lambs in.
manger -
Place for them in the inn - there was no inn. But probobly a guest room.
Micah did not want to get stuck on 75.
Luke 1:28–29 ESV
28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be.
Luke 1:46–47 ESV
46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
Levi “something doesn’t sound right”.

Jesus turns fear into joy.

Luke 2:8 ESV
8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
region - around the hills of Bethlehem.
Shepherds - were looked down upon. Blue collar worker.
Flock - may have been temple sheep. expand.
Night - the night shift shepherds.
Luke 2:9 ESV
9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.
angel of the Lord - Maybe Gabriel again?
This would cause fear. SHOW PICS OF ANGELS.
glory of the Lord around them - The shepherds
But that caused fear - it was awesome!
Luke 2:10 ESV
10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Fear Not- Sometimes God’s news can be scary. ......
good news - that is the gospel!
of great joy - not just joy, but great joy. What was the happiest moment of your life?
Luke 2:11 ESV
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
unto you - it wasn’t to them! But it is for all of us! Not just Mary.
If someone would have said a baby is born unto me, id be like uh no. haha
City of David - Saying he is King.
Christ the Lord - Christ is the messiah. There was a misunderstanding that he was also Lord.
Luke 2:12 ESV
12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
Wait, huh? City of David, Christ the Lord.
Sign: was used when something big was going to happen.
lying in a manger? Why was the King of the world lying in a manger?
Luke 2:13–14 ESV
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Before they had
Peace - Everything right. Not just the absence of war.
glory to God first, then peace as a result. The more glory to god, the more peace we receive.
Whom he is pleased - Not men in general as KJV says. Because, Christmas is only good.
So how do we make sure God is pleased with us?

We must turn joy into worship.

Luke 2:15 ESV
15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
Let us go - Of course! We all would.
Smell this illustration.
Luke 2:16–17 ESV
16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.
Made haste - still no doubt brought there sheep. Shepherds did not leave sheep.
Likely would have still had to look around in different areas.
Luke 2:18–19 ESV
18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.
wondered -
Mary treasured up all these things. - imperfect tense.
pondering - to this day.
Luke 2:20 ESV
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
glorifying - Eugene Patterson - the shepherds lost it?
Why? Shepherds were for temple.
When fear turns into Joy. Joy should turn into worship!
CONCLUSION:
Chara vs Charis. Joy comes from Grace.
