*Text: Hebrews 12:1-3 (NLT)*
1.     Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress.
And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us.
2.     We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish.
He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterward.
Now he is seated in the place of highest honor beside God's throne in heaven.
3.     Think about all he endured when sinful people did such terrible things to him, so that you don't become weary and give up.
*Introduction:* Saturday afternoon I went down to Lenscrafters for an eye exam.
It had been over 3 years since my last exam and it was time for an update to my prescription.
When I went and picked up my new glasses the following Tuesday, I was totally amazed at the difference.
Suddenly I could see things off in the distance that I wouldn’t have even tried to see before because I knew I would have to squint.
I remarked to the optician waiting on me that I had totally forgotten what it was like to see with 20~/20 vision.
Although I wasn’t blind by any stretch of the imagination, (in fact my near vision is 20~/20) I had difficulty seeing things in the distance.
The worse part of this was that I had settled for blurry vision and poor focus.
I was comfortable with the status quo.
It is often the same in our lives.
We allow sin and circumstance to blur our vision of the prize.
Just as I had every intention of going to get new glasses
1 ½ years ago, we have every intention to refocus our focus but say “oh, I’ll save that for another time.”
Meanwhile we get complacent and accept our blurry vision as “just the way it is.”
