Women are important!
Women are important!
Recently we have looked at the kind of men God wants. Today we will look at the kind of women God examples.

Women have always been important to God, if it were not for women, none of us would be here today. Women in the bible give some great examples not just for other women, but for men to learn and glean from too when it comes to faith, boldness and service.
Before us today we are going to look at one of the great examples we find tucked away in the O.T. in (1Sam1) Hannah, the mother of Samuel the prophet (seer), and a judge of Israel. So, may I offer up today a great woman of faith as seen in the scripture, turn to 1Sam1:1-2:10.
Here is the breakdown for this morning
Women of faith endure (1Sam1:1-6)
They endure hardships, hard times, tribulations
Women of faith extend (1Sam1:9-18)
They extend heart-felt, vibrant prayers
Women of faith experience (1Sam1:19-20)
They experience God’s provisions and blessings
Women of faith excel (1Sam1:22-28)
They excel in keeping their promises
Women of faith express (1Sam2:1-10)
They express their their praise and thanksgiving.
If we are honest, women and men both do these things, but women oftentimes can do these things better than men, they just do not do it from a place of leadership but a place of humble service.

Our biblical example this morning of Hannah, well she did not have a life of luxury, but did of love and, well, problems too. She, as a woman of man had to endure problems
Problems of a closed womb (vv.1-5)
I strongly suggest that you havce your bible or bible app open to follow along for we have lots of scripture to glean from in 1Sam1-2.
1 Now there was a certain man from Ramathaim-zophim from the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite. 2 He had two wives: the name of one was Hannah and the name of the other Peninnah; and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 Now this man would go up from his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice to the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the Lord there. 4 When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters;
5 but to Hannah he would give a double portion, for he loved Hannah, but the Lord had closed her womb.

Problems of a rival wife (vv.6-8)
6 Her rival, however, would provoke her bitterly to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. 7 It happened year after year, as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she would provoke her; so she wept and would not eat.
8 Then Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep and why do you not eat and why is your heart sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
Her rival, Peninnah would provoke bitterly just to irritate Hannah because she had a closed womb
Her husband loved her and tried to encourage her as best he could. Not just with words (v.8) but with actions too. (back in v.5)

Faithful women are not without problems, trials, tribulations or troubles in this life.
Even the righteous often suffer (i.e. Job, Paul)
Maybe even suffer ridicule, like Sarah from Hagar (Gen16:3-5)
Do not allow others to deter your faith, your trust in the Lord, His word and His promises
(Transition) Women of faith have trials, tribulations and troubles in this life, just as men do. What distinguishes women of faith with other women is what they do when faced with these problems.

So, our first lesson was women of faith face problems, now our next one is that women of faith extend vibrant, vervant prayers
9 Then Hannah rose after eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the temple of the Lord. 10 She, greatly distressed, prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly.
In great distress, wept bitterly (V.10)
in some versions it says in anguish, sorely, in much tears, couldn’t stop crying, wept much, sobbed. Can you get the idea here?
11 She made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head.” 12 Now it came about, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli was watching her mouth.
She offered a solemn vow (v.11)
She was persistent (continued praying) to the Lord (v.12)
13 As for Hannah, she was speaking in her heart, only her lips were moving, but her voice was not heard. So Eli thought she was drunk. 14 Then Eli said to her, “How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine from you.”
Her prayers were speaking in her heart (v.13).
15 But Hannah replied, “No, my lord, I am a woman oppressed in spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the Lord. 16 “Do not consider your maidservant as a worthless woman, for I have spoken until now out of my great concern and provocation.”
She poured out her soul before the Lord (v.15)
17 Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of Him.” 18 She said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
She left by faith knowing she would find favor (v.18)

Lessons from a faithful woman
Pray fervently, put your soul into it (Col4:2)
Pray consistently, persistently with steadfastness (Col4:2)
2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;
Pray faithfully, knowing God will answer prayers (1Jn5:14-15)
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
(Transition) women of faith believe in the efficiency and effectiveness of prayer. Knowing that God takes notice of such faith (consider 2Chr16:9) and that leads us to our next point regarding our godly example of a woman of faith, Hannah, Hannah, Hannah.

Women of faith experience
Women of faith who endure problems, trials, tribulations and troubles are faithful in prayer also experience God’s provisions and that is what we are looking at now.
19 Then they arose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord, and returned again to their house in Ramah. And Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. 20 It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of the Lord.”
Hannah experienced God’s provision by the Lord remembered her (v.19)
God remembered her and gave her a son, she named Samuel (meaning heard of God) (v.20)

God may give us us what we want, if it is in accordance to His will (1Jn5:14); when we abide in His word (Jn15:7)

7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
Selfish prayers will not be answered as we want, desire (Jm4:3)

God will always provide what we need, maybe not what we expect, but what we need and for our good (Mt6:33; Rom8:28)

(Transition) So in our case of Hannah the faithful woman example we are using this morning she received what she prayed for, what she wanted, but she also made a vow (a promise) and that is what we are going to look at next.

Women of faith excel
Women of faith’s words mean something. Hannah endured problems, Hannah extended her prayers, and she experienced God’s provisions. Now it is time to look at her promise and her promise keeping.
22 But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “I will not go up until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord and stay there forever.”
Hannah promised when to go up to and appear and bring the child (Samuel) and leave him there.She planned to keep her promise.
23 Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems best to you. Remain until you have weaned him; only may the Lord confirm His word.” So the woman remained and nursed her son until she weaned him. 24 Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with a three-year-old bull and one ephah of flour and a jug of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord in Shiloh, although the child was young.
25 Then they slaughtered the bull, and brought the boy to Eli. 26 She said, “Oh, my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the Lord.
27 “For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him. 28 “So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.
Hannah carried out just as she promised. She was a woman of faith a woman of her word (vv.24-28)

Hannah set example of vow making, vow keeping, we can learn from her example to keep our vows, don’t be a fool (Ecc5:4-5) let our yes be yes, our no be no (Mt5:33-37; Jm5:12)

4 When you make a vow to God, do not be late in paying it; for He takes no delight in fools. Pay what you vow! 5 It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.
Jesus said do not make false vows, keep them! let you yes be yes and your no be no as noted in (Mt5:33-37, paraphrased)

12 But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.
Don’t fulfill vows, promises begrudgingly, do it cheerfully, filled with gratitude to the Lord (Col3:17)
17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
(Transition) So, Hannah now comes to one of the most beautiful prayers you find in the scripture, a great example, even one that Mary in her “Magnificat” (Lk1:46-55) pulled from.

Women of faith express
Women of faith express their faith in theirs and their actions. Hannah set’s a great example of a prayer of praise and thanksgiving.
1 Then Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. 2 “There is no one holy like the Lord, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.
3 “Boast no more so very proudly, Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; For the Lord is a God of knowledge, And with Him actions are weighed. 4 “The bows of the mighty are shattered, But the feeble gird on strength.
5 “Those who were full hire themselves out for bread, But those who were hungry cease to hunger. Even the barren gives birth to seven, But she who has many children languishes. 6 “The Lord kills and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.
7 “The Lord makes poor and rich; He brings low, He also exalts. 8 “He raises the poor from the dust, He lifts the needy from the ash heap To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, And He set the world on them.
9 “He keeps the feet of His godly ones, But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness; For not by might shall a man prevail. 10 “Those who contend with the Lord will be shattered; Against them He will thunder in the heavens, The Lord will judge the ends of the earth; And He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn of His anointed.”
Hannah’s praise was with great joy in her heart (v.1)
Hannah’s praise was for all that God had done (vv.2-10)

Rejoice in the Lord always, especially when blessings received. (Php4:4; 1The5:16)

Praise God! Praise God for blessings received (Ps18:49) for it is a spiritual act of worship (Heb13:15)

49 Therefore I will give thanks to You among the nations, O Lord, And I will sing praises to Your name.
Give thanks and and sing praises
15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.
