The Eyes of the Lord are upon our lives.
Proverbs 20:8 (KJV 1900)
Proverbs 20:8 KJV 1900
A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment Scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment Scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

Zoom Out - Placing It in the Larger Story

Proverbs advances the overarching theme of the Bible, which is God’s calling, preserving, and shaping a people for himself
The book provides wisdom for reflecting God’s glory in the details of daily life and in one’s relationships.
It demonstrates clearly that God’s ways are intensely practical and apply to every aspect of his people’s lives.
The main emphasis of the book is to show that relating rightly to God involves, first, seeking to understand his truth, and second, embracing and obeying that truth.
There are four primary characters in Proverbs:
The wise are those who embrace God’s covenant.
Fools, on the other hand, are opposed to God, yet they are not beyond hope.
The simple are those who remain uncommitted to either wisdom or folly, and because of that they are easily misled.
The scoffer is proud and arrogant and scorns God’s ways.

Review:

I do not want our King to see me drunk and I do this by not drinking nor needing to drink.
I do not want the King seeing me covering my lack of integrity by writing my own press releases.
I do not want our King to see me being easily provoked because I know my anger can be destructive.
I do not want our King to see me meddling where I should not meddle
I do not want the King hear me making lame excuses for the responsibilities He has given me.
I do not want the King seeing me covering my lack of integrity by writing my own press releases.
I do not want our King seeing me using unfair business practices.
I do not want our King to see me sleeping when I should be awake nor do I want Him to find me awake when I should be sleeping.
I do not want our King seeing me keeping a tale bearer in business.
I do not want the King to see my dishonoring my parents.
I do not want the King see me mismanaging His unexpected blessings in my life.
I do not want our King seeing me keeping a tale bearer in business.

I do not want the King seeing me usurping His authority and seeking my own revenge.

Proverbs 20:22 KJV 1900
22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; But wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.
Good example about how this is not about behavior modification but trusting God. Dependent on God.
Bitterness: unresolved violation of your justice system (brings hurt and anger) - Jim Schettler

Christians never need revenge.

1 Peter 4:19 (KJV 1900)
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit (trust) the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

How do we do good to those who are hurting us?

It is important when we think about what it means to enable someone. (HALO)
According to the will of God defines suffering.
Is he saying God will decide if we suffer or not?
Is it saying we should suffer in the proper way?
Not sure but both are true.
What are we commanded to do?
Trust God with your life
Do good to those who cause you suffer.
How do we do good to those who hurt us?
fully depending on God
How should we think about God? Seen in the way we view him faithful, Creator
Luke 23:46 (KJV 1900)
46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
The promise that frees us from an unforgiving, bitter, vengeful spirit is the promise that God will settle our accounts.
Romans 12:19 (KJV 1900)
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

I do not want the King to hear of me making rash and foolish vows that I cannot pay.

Proverbs 20:25 KJV 1900
25 It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, And after vows to make inquiry.

Making rash promises without thinking them through is dangerous (cf. Deut. 23:21–23; Ecc. 5:4–5). Making a vow rashly and then considering what he did can get a person in as much trouble as if he stepped into an animal trap. It is better to think before acting.

Sure you all are aware of Jepthah and his daughter. Judges 11
Jepthah made a rash vow trying to show his allegiance and win acceptance among the others
I do not know if she was killed. I believe she was but the story shows us the danger of rash vows.

Paul wanted to go to Corinth

2 Corinthians 1:15 (KJV 1900)
15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;

Paul had evidently communicated to the church in Corinth that he was coming. And then, he had to change his plans.

We need to let our yes and our nos mean something.
James 5:12 (KJV 1900)
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

Paul had evidently communicated to the church in Corinth that he was coming. And then, he had to change his plans.

2 Corinthians 1:17–18 (KJV 1900)
17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?
18 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

So, Paul’s defense for not following through on his initial plan was that he was motivated not by fear or selfishness but by love:

2 Corinthians 1:23–24 (KJV 1900)
23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.
24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.

Here is some terminology we should use for everyday life.

Acts 16:10 (KJV 1900)
10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

Our committments should be qualified.

James 4:15 (KJV 1900)
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
Seems like vows are a necessary part of life
Ecclesiastes 5:4–5 (KJV 1900)
4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.
5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.

In regard to ministry.

The commission is giving to the church and it is through the church that God provides His workers for the work. It is also through the church he will call people to serve.

I want the King to see me using my youth and strength to serve Him while in my youth.

Proverbs 20:29 (KJV 1900)
29 The glory of young men is their strength: And the beauty of old men is the gray head.
Still young. I would beat Kristen in a game of horse after service if I didn’t have a deacons meeting.
1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV 1900)
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Youth can be despised.
You should care about what the right adults think
Your desire should be to honor God. - Find out what kind of words and conduct God wants and do that.
The point is not: find out what older people want and give it to them so they don’t despise you. The point is: find out what kind of words and conduct God wants and do that
Youth should look to God, believe in the gospel, do what God calls him to do, and in that way become an example to the rest.
Use your energy and strength for His glory
“Don’t let the culture set low expectations for what you may accomplish for Christ.”
One of the strengths of being young is being teachable.
Ecclesiastes 4:13 (KJV 1900)
13 Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.

I want the King to see me contributing to the work of the Kingdom by growing in wisdom as my physical strength declines

Proverbs 20:29 (KJV 1900)
29 The glory of young men is their strength: And the beauty of old men is the gray head.
This should be the prayer of the older generation
Psalm 71:18 (KJV 1900)
18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; Until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, And thy power to every one that is to come.
This is the work you should be very busy about.
Be.Do.Serve. Train.
Here is what happens if you do not
Judges 2:10 (KJV 1900)
10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which (1) knew not the Lord, (2) nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
This is the reason I think the way we talk about missions is so extremely important.
Often said our missions wall isnt much but we do have a missions office across from it.
We need to continue to seek and find ways to help the kids of this church know that taking the Gospel to everyone is a worth our lives.

I do not want our King to see me waste suffering in my life.

Proverbs 20:30 (KJV 1900)
Proverbs 20:30 KJV 1900
The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: So do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
Seems like vows are a necessary part of life
30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: So do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
The purpose of corporal punishment (wounds ) is not to inflict pain but to veer one’s conduct from sin.
As we saw at the start the inwards parts of the belly represented my “Be Level”

Start with recognizing your trouble or suffering is working.

2 Corinthians 4:17 (KJV 1900)
17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
How do you look at the unseen?
2 Corinthians 4:18 (KJV 1900)
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Either you see it with the eyes of faith and believe it because the text says it, or you lose heart.
A life of suffering is temporary and light. - The unseen we are looking at is in the life to come.
Just know it is never, never meaningless.

Do not avoid risk at all costs.

We are not taught disregards a father’s calling to protect his family 1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”
Or a disciple’s obedience in fleeing from persecution Matthew 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
There should be some calculated risk assessment where you choice the risk. Common to take risks for the cause of Christ in the NT.
Hebrews 10:34 (KJV 1900)
34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
It is okay and even Christlike to allow someone to take advantage of your kindness
1 Corinthians 6:7 (KJV 1900)
7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?

The King and only the King really knows the life I am living.

Proverbs 20:26 KJV 1900
26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, And bringeth the wheel over them.
1 Corinthians 3:12–13 (KJV 1900)
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
Conclusion
The motivating power of grace is missing. Take a look at five people printing Bibles on the same assembly line. Mr. Dollar is asking, “How can I make more money?” Mrs. Ambitious is asking, “How can I get that promotion?” Mr. Pleaser is asking, “How can I make my boss happy?” Mr. Selfish is asking, “How can I get personal satisfaction in my job?” They all look and feel miserable. Then we bump into Mrs. Grace, who’s asking, “In view of God’s amazing grace to me in Christ, how can I serve God and others here?” - David Murray
Do we live with the understanding we are being watched by our loving King.
1 John 1:8 (KJV 1900)
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Does He guide you with His eye?
Psalm 32:8 KJV 1900
8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Most people live reactionary lives. Let us live a mindful life knowing that we live to please our King.
