I love Christmas!
I love the sights, the smells and even the sounds of Christmas!
We are starting a new series today, on the Sound of the Season.
We are going to look at a few Christmas carols in light of Scripture.
Today we will look at Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
Let’s sing that together
Verse 1
Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th’angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
Verse 2
Christ, by highest Heav’n adored; Christ the everlasting Lord; Late in time, behold Him come, Offspring of a virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail th’incarnate Deity, Pleased with us in flesh to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel.
Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
Verse 3
Hail the heav’nly Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Ris’n with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die; Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
Luke 2:13–14 KJV
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, Good will toward men.
Verse 1: Hark the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth and mercy mild God and sinners reconciled"

I. Our Reconciliation

Reconciliation - the restoration of friendly relations.

A. Man with God

2 Corinthians 5:18–19 KJV
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

B. Man with Each Other

Joyful, all ye nations rise Join the triumph of the skies
It’s always a very special moment when nations work together for a purpose.
Olympics
Silent Night on German/American battle field.
We will one day sing all together the Praise of God.
Revelation 21:24 KJV
24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
Haggai 2:6–7 KJV
6 For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, And I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; 7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: And I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.
Christ came to reconcile all man together with God.
That is one of my favorite parts of Christmas, we all join together to sing about Christ’s coming.
With the angelic host proclaim: "Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Because Christ came we can all sing!
Luke 2:10–12 KJV
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" Verse 2: Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!

II. Our Lord

A. Granted by God

Philippians 2:9–11 KJV
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Isaiah 9:6 KJV
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

B. Sent at God’s Time

Late in time behold Him come
Galatians 4:4 KJV
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
1 Peter 1:20 KJV
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
Hebrews 1:1–2 KJV
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

C. Sent in God’s Way

Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Matthew 1:22–25 KJV
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

1. As much Man as He ever was God

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hebrews 10:19–20 KJV
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
Hebrews 4:15 KJV
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

2. As much God as He ever was Man

Hail the incarnate Deity
Colossians 2:9 KJV
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

3. But He was God with Us

Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
John 1:14 KJV
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Matthew 1:23 KJV
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
On the reality show Undercover Boss, CEOs would disguise themselves and work within different departments in their companies in order to evaluate the ethos and processes of their everyday employees, those they would never otherwise interact with. Many of the CEOs had routinely made policies without knowing the people who would be affected by their decisions. They did not know their people. Not so with Jesus. He lived the life of a humble servant, not a CEO (Philippians 2:6–8).
Philippians 2:6–8 KJV
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" Verse 3: Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!

III. Our Provider

A. Provider of Peace

Isaiah 9:6 KJV
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

B. Provider of Light

Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Malachi 4:2 KJV
2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise With healing in his wings; And ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Light and life to all He brings
Isaiah 9:1–2 KJV
1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, When at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, And afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, Beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. 2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: They that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
John 8:12 KJV
12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Then God tells us that we have that responsibility to shine that light through our lives.
Matthew 5:14 KJV
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

C. Provider of Healing

Ris'n with healing in His wings
Malachi 4:2 KJV
2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise With healing in his wings; And ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

D. Provider of Salvation

1. Born laying aside His Glory

Mild He lays His glory by
Philippians 2:6–8 KJV
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
John 17:5 KJV
5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
John 17:24 KJV
24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

2. Born that Others May live

Born that man no more may die
John 11:25–26 KJV
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

3. Born that we may live forever!

Born to raise the sons of earth
1 Corinthians 15:50–57 KJV
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:14 KJV
14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
Born to give them second birth
John 1:13 KJV
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Titus 3:5 KJV
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
John 3:3 KJV
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Galatians 4:4–5 KJV
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
