· Romans 4-Justified by Faith Romans 4 Paul picks up where he left of saying that the law shouldn't be nullified on chapter 3 asking what should be concluded about the matter according to Abraham's findings since if Abraham was justified by works then he possessed the right to boast according to the flesh (boast to man) but not before God since the scriptures says that his faith(because he believed) was considered or counted as righteousness "3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." "-Romans 4:3 NASB, that statement differs from someone being paid their wages due because they worked versus it being counted as favor (Grace) because he who believes(has faith) in the one who justifies his faith is counted/considered as righteousness. Its counted as favor because it is a blessing and a huge show of favor to be forgiven by God especially so for man's sin to not be taken into account by the Lord(κύριος/ kyrios= owner,Lord and master)[extra commentary on my part: the change in word from θεὸς/theos (v 6) to kyrios(v 7) and the mentioned in romans 3 of God's manifestation Jesus indicates and foreshadows of Jesus judgment as Lord]" 6 just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: 7 "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED. 8 "BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT." "- Romans 4:6-8 NASB. it all circles back to the fact that this is a Favor and Grace to both circumcised and uncircumcised therefore making it a gift for all mankind Jew and Gentile alike bringing forth the fact that before the forefather Abraham was circumcised his faith was counted as righteousness due to the fact the the circumcision was a seal that allowed him to be the father of all who would believe without being circumcised and a father to those who were circumcised and followed in his faith in other words his faith was not determined by the circumcision but circumcision was determined by his faith an outward expression of his faith which was already counted unto to him as righteousness. Paul further explains that the promise to Abraham and his descendants to be heir of the world was given through the righteousness of faith and not a promise given through the Law otherwise it would make faith void therefore nullifying the promise. He explains that the law brings about wrath because if there is no law then there is no transgression/violation , since the law brings about wrath for that reason the promises were given and granted by faith so that all could inherit the Grace given by God (this also means that since the Law can't grant it, it can not take the promise away either) by making it acquirable by faith anyone can receive God's Grace making it a Gift and a Gift for ALL" 16 For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all," - Romans 4:16 NASB. Paul at this point begin to explains how Abraham believing in God who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist (Rom 17) against the odds of not only being old but his wife being barren he choose to believe God's promise to make him and his descendants father of many nations, making his faith stronger instead of weakening by the bad odds. Abraham's faith allowed him to glorify God "22 Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." - Romans 4:22 NASB, making it so important because this made it so those who believe in God who would raise Jesus from the dead be counted unto them as Righteousness. " 24 but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25 He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification." -Romans 4:24-25) NASB (notice how Jesus is addressed as Lord) Because of the faith therefore they are justified and because of "our" justification he was raised from the dead. He justified his believers so that he may die for them and rise again for "our" salvation. Paul ends Romans 4 showing God's great Grace, his omnipotence and plans for mankind; reminding mankind of exactly what David said 7 "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED. 8 "BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT."- Romans 4:7-8 NASB. It is a Gift to be justified by Faith.
