Our discipleship and service are measured by our actions over our words. Jesus favors the humble repentance of a sinner over the moral and verbal grandstanding of “the righteous”. This kingdom story demonstrates that the religiously observant can know what to say and surprisingly not fulfill the will of their father. And even more surprisingly still (and amazingly for that matter)- God’s love accepts the genuine actions of those rejected and discarded by the religious establishment.
