The Bible is full of principles we take for granted a lot.  Reaping what we sowed is one of them.  None of us would be surprised that a farmer who sowed seeds of corn expects corn stalks to show up a few months later.  However we often take for granted the spiritual side of this principle.

I.                    God tells us TO sow

A.                  Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.( Gal 6:6)

B.                  Supporting those who teach and preach God’s Word

C.                  Taking what is temporary and perishable and transforming it into eternal and nonperishable.

1.                  Matthew 6:19 _¶Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

2.                  Matthew 6:20 _But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

II.                  God warns us WHERE to sow

A.                  Sow - spending your time energy and talent for a cause

1.                   8  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting

B.                  FLESH

1.                  Turn away from what God says - do whatever feels good

2.                  Do things for yourself, invest in YOU

3.                  Put emphasis on carnal things - athletics, relationships, wealth, popularity.

4.                  You will reap corruption

a.                  Things will come to pass - beauty, strength, glory

b.                  God will destroy our  “achievements”

(1)               Leviticus 26:16 _I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

(2)               Judges 6:3,4 _And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them; And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.

C.                  SPIRIT

3.                  use your talent for HIM!!!

III.                God shows us HOW to sow

A.                  With humility

1.                  Jeremiah 4:3,4 _¶For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

B.                  With passion and zeal

1.                  2 Corinthians 9:6 _¶But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
