review

So let’s remember from last week Jesus stayed with the Samaritan people for two days and they believed in Him
first because of the woman and now because they witnessed themselves
but when Jesus left and were with his own people they received he but did not believe him.

Healing of the Nobleman’s son

John 4:46–54 NASB95
46 Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. 48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.” 49 The royal official said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off. 51 As he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was living. 52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and his whole household. 54 This is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

word of mouth

v. 46-47

this official was someone that was probably told that Jesus was a miracle worker.
Word gets around he probably didn’t attend the passover and he probably did not even see Jesus turned water into wine
but the reputation of Jesus he heard and he identified Jesus as a miracle worker
he is desperate. He asks Jesus to come to his house to heal his son.
His son was near death
Just because this royal official came to Jesus, it did not mean that he believed in Him (as Savior)
He must have heard about Jesus and all that He was doing, thus the reason for coming.
.....but it wasn't for believing in Him

Jesus response

John 4:48 NASB95
48 So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.”
When Jesus said “you people”, he was not just talking to the royal official, he was talking about all the people.
Jesus is rebuking this man . With all that Jesus taught to Nicodemus, the Samaritans. All the focus was on signs and wonders
Jesus is saying that unless people see signs and wonders they will not believe.

Life Application

how often do we hear about things hoping to get something out of it, but not truly
have we become people that want something for nothing?
FREE VACATIONS BUT YIU MUST…….
do we do this with Jesus?
Lord I need you to help me now......
Lord I want this.......
(woman with Child helped by church)
I WANT YOU TO HELP ME, BUT I DONT WANT YOU

What was his response

John 4:49 NASB95
49 The royal official said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
The man’s worry was so great, he couldn’t see pass His son
The official is not interested in Jesus, his Word, or even theology. He was only thinking of the life and welfare of his child
He wants Jesus to come with him.
John 4:50 NASB95
50 Jesus said to him, “Go; your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off.

A CHANGE

Jesus did not go to the son as the father wanted, he just said “your son will live”
the man, who was focused seeing a miracle believed in the Word of Jesus.
this man stepped out on faith, he didn’t see a sign or wonder
he took Jesus’ word for it.
two things happened here
NOT ONLY DID JESUS HEAL THE BOY -PHYSICALLY. BUT HE HEAL THE MAN SPIRITUALITY
John 4:51–52 NASB95
51 As he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was living. 52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”
a long travel
the Lord healed Him instantly
John 4:53–54 NASB95
53 So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”; and he himself believed and his whole household. 54 This is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.
receive vs believe.
are you 100% dependent on Him? Do you believe or just know
is Jesus your world or a distant relative that you see once in a while
