BEING CERTAIN ABOUT HIS CALLING AND CHOOSING YOU!
2 Peter 1:10-11 “Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.”
I. The FAITH that can be RECEIVED!
2 Peter 1:1 . . . To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours
II. The GRACE that can be MULTIPLIED!
2 Peter 1:2 “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;”
How are Grace and Peace multiplied to you? . . . IN the KNOWLEDGE of God and of Jesus our Lord
III. The POWER that can be GRANTED!
2 Peter 1:3 “seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.”
What has God’s Divine Power Granted To Us? . . . everything pertaining to LIFE and GODLINESS
How is God’s Divine Power Granted to Us? . . . through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence!
IV. The NATURE that can be IMPARTED!
2 Peter 1:4 “For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.”
V. The DILIGENCE that can be APPLIED!
2 Peter 1:5 “Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,”
The Apostle Peter exhorts his audience to add to or equip their faith with:
**Moral Excellence=
1:5 . . . in your faith supply moral excellence
**Knowledge=
1:5 . . . and in your knowledge supply
**Self Control=
1:6 and in your knowledge, self control and in your self control supply . . .
**Perseverance=
1:6 and in your self control perseverance and in your perseverance . . .
**Godliness=
1:6 and in your perseverance godliness and in your godliness . . .
**Brotherly Kindness=
1:7 and in your godliness supply brotherly kindness and in your brotherly kindness supply . . .
**Love=
1:7 and in your brotherly kindness supply godliness and in your godliness supply love
VI. The ASSURANCE that can be PROVIDED!
2 Peter 1:8 “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Notice the priceless promises in 1:8, if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither USELESS nor UNFRUITFUL in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Notice the conclusion Peter reaches in 1:9
2 Peter 1:9 “For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.”
When we are growing in the true, personal, intimate knowledge of Jesus Christ , manifesting itself with the seven qualities mentioned above, it is easier for us to make His calling and choosing us in salvation certain in our lives!
2 Peter 1:11 “for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.”
In Closing, notice the affirmation Peter offers to his audience in 1:12
2 Peter 1:12 “Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.”
We are being CALLED to demonstrate a PURE faith in the midst of a Perverse world, and one of the best ways to fulfill our calling is Be Certain Of His Calling and Choosing Us!
Are you being diligent to add to your pure faith: moral excellence, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love?
If the answer is YES, your life will never be USELESS nor UNFRUITFUL!
