Review

Samaritan woman talks with Jesus and after there conversation she left to go and tell the Samaritan people about Jesus.
Because of her testimony, the Samaritan people went to see Jesus.

Lets read John 4:31-45.

John 4:31–45 NASB95
31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work. 35 “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. 36 “Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 “For in this case the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 “I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.” 39 From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that I have done.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 Many more believed because of His word; 42 and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.” 43 After the two days He went forth from there into Galilee. 44 For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. 45 So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they themselves also went to the feast.
so lets continue this day or fun events!!!!!!!!

Verses 31 -33

So as the Samaritans come to see Jesus, you can think of hundreds of people coming to see Jesus.
among this.....His disciples wanted Him to eat.
But he said that he had food that they didn't know anything about.
Now here is the thing......
The Samaritan woman met Jesus as she was out getting water, when she talked to Jesus she had a earthly mindset as Jesus had a heavenly mindset
the same with the disciples. They went out in search for food, they come back with earthly mindset.
woman in search for water - Jesus tells her about living water / salvation
the disciples in search for food - they tell Jesus to eat - Jesus tells them He has food that they don’t know about
What was that food?

Salvation

John 4:34 NASB95
34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.
Jesus is saying here that His word, the fight for salvation is more important then ever him eating food.
His mission was more important then his own comfort.

attraction vs mission

pastors and there churches on hard subject matters
biblical response vs PC response
mission vs comfort
Jesus makes it clear that His propose is to do this, to offer salvation to all, it is more important then his comfort of eating.
in fact Jesus hungers and craves us to know the truth and to have salvation.
Have we allowed our comfort to get in the way of our mission as Christians?

Lets talk about WORK

What does Jesus mean when he said that he needed to accomplish/ finish His work?
lets not forget that God saw that he was done with His work
Genesis 2:2 NASB95
2 By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
But Jesus also says later :
John 5:17 NASB95
17 But He answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working.”
So what do you think it means when Jesus say when he talks about accomplishing or finishing His work?
I feel that God was done with all his work at creation. But I also think that God is still working (now after the fall) to complete His creation, a creation being free from sin.
lets continue

John 4:35-38

John 4:35–38 NASB95
35 “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. 36 “Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 “For in this case the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 “I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”
Jesus speaks of the work that needs to be done in order to spread the gospel.
There is a field of work that needs to be done.
Jesus also shows that others (prophets) have worded the fields.
Jesus makes it clear:
the disciple were out getting food while Jesus was working the field.

John 4:39-45

John 4:39–45 NASB95
39 From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that I have done.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.
