1 John 5:4–5 (NKJV)
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Saving faith is the victory.
True faith is our victory, because true Biblical faith is real. True Biblical faith is based on the Word of God, and rooted in Jesus Christ.
A pie in the sky hope is no victory, but a substantial faith is, and Biblical faith is substantial.
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Faith = A state of certainty with regard to belief.
Substance = Something real, tangible
hope = a trusting, confident hope, an expectation (denotes a certainty).
Evidence = proof
This teaches us that faith provides the reality and proof of things which we can’t see directly.
Faith is being sure and certain about unseen hopes and realities.
In Fact, God has provided lots of substantial proof of the truth if His word.
The validity of Christian faith does not rest on either our sincerity or our fervency. Christian faith stands or falls on the truth that the Word of God reveals.
True Biblical faith is not blind optimism or a manufactured “hope-so” feeling.
Neither is it an intellectual acknowledgment of a doctrine. It is certainly not believing in spite of evidence! That would be superstition.
Faith is more than conviction of the reality of the facts that God has unveiled. Faith also exists as response to those facts.
The Scripture makes it clear:
“Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him”.
True Bible faith is confident obedience to God’s Word in spite of circumstances and consequences.
This faith operates quite simply. God speaks and we hear His Word. We trust His Word and act on it no matter what the circumstances are or what the consequences may be.
The circumstances may be impossible, and the consequences frightening and unknown; but we obey God’s Word just the same and believe Him to do what is right and what is best.
When we are willing to accept as fact what God’s Word says, and in response reach out to seek and to experience relationship with Him, then we have begun to live by faith. And then we will be rewarded.
Faith is extremely important:
Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6), and By faith is how the saved will live.
Habakkuk 2:4
“Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.
“His faith” = God’s faith is a gift from God to us.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
As you can see, the gift of faith brings salvation:
Acts 11:24
For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.
Barnabus’ faith helped others to come to Christ.
Faith is essential for protection:
Ephesians 6:16
above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
v.5:
Faith is the victory that has overcome the world, because our faith is real, substantial and provable.
Most of all, It is based on the reality of Christ, and He has overcome the world.
John 16:33
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Therefore, when we are in Christ, we are in Him who has overcome the world.
Our ability to partake in His victory, is due to faith.
A note about victory:
Victory does not mean that we will prosper financially, or that we can speak ourselves into prosperity.
Victory does not mean that we won’t get sick, or that we can speak our illnesses away.
Victory does not mean that we will not have difficult times.
Victory does not mean that we won’t get persecuted.
Victory does not mean that bad things will not happen.
Victory does not mean that we won’t lose some battles.
Victory means that we will win the war. (i.e. the U.S. has won many wars, but in the process we suffered many losses and lost many battles.)
Victory means that ultimately sin will be defeated.
Victory means that throughout the toils and hardships of this war, we have the protection, provision and comfort of the Almighty God, King of Kings, and Lord of Hosts.
In our victory, we will ultimately gain eternal life in the presence and image of Christ Himself!
