The Conversation
last week, we talked about Jesus having a conversation with a Samaritan woman.
We learned here that Samaritans and Jew did not get along.
We also learned that the women normally went to draw water in groups and this woman traveled and got water alone.
we learned that this woman was probably considered a troubled woman a bad woman
as Jesus and her talked, Jesus talked to her about heavenly things, and the woman responded in earthly understanding.
But when Jesus mention something personal about her (not having a husband) she saw that Jesus was a prophet
Lets see the change in conversation.
Lets read John 4:20-30

20 “Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”
21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22 “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23 “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”
26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”
27 At this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why do You speak with her?”
28 So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men,
29 “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”
30 They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.

before, the woman speaks with materialism.
As Jesus speaks to her about Biblical things, she response earthly. Until, she sees him as a Prophet.

19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
20 “Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”
The woman’s question immediately turns to theological.
Because of the historical conflict between the Jews and Samaritans, The Jews worshiped in Jerusalem, and said that this is the only place to Worship.
The Samaritans built there own temple in on Mt Gerizim (Ger-a-Zsm), and that is where they worshiped.
So the woman’s question is fair because even in the conflict, but groups wanted to worship God.

The Torah (the first 5 books) does not say a specific place to Worship
However there are places in the Old Testament where worship takes place in Jerusalem
The Jews could have made a rule that was not 100% founded on Scripture, which could have caused further division

Jesus tell this woman to BELIEVE Him. Jesus makes it clear that it is not about the location of worship.

Jesus explains that the Samaritans did not know the knowledge of God.
Jesus is a Jew, Salvation comes from the Jews,
The Samaritans did not know this, Did not know how to worship,
they allowed there historical, and social angers to get in the way of acknowledging that that Salvation comes from the Nation of Israel. It comes from Jesus (Who is a Jew)

Jesus say that a time is coming and already is....
He is talking about the present state and the future state at the same time, without denying ether one
Jesus is prophesying, as the woman saw.

Jesus shares that God is Spirit, so his people must worship in spirit and truth
No locations. Location is not important.
We are seeing the art of relationship here.
God wants us to worship Him in truth and in Spirit, not in a weak human standing.

25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.”
26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”
The woman attempts to conclude the conversation by saying that the Messiah is coming and when he does He will explain everything.
So the Samaritans had a hope also for the Messiah.
But the woman ended the conversation with “Well the Messiah will explain”
in other words: “Maybe another time” “I don’t understand but”
DO we do that??????
We will do that are another time, a better time, when I’m older, not focused,
Jesus Checkmates her
V. 26
Jesus says who He is.
He said “I AM”
The first time in the Gospel when Jesus says “I AM”
Jesus tells her I Am as he told Moses in Exodus “I AM” Jesus says He is God.
27 At this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why do You speak with her?”
28 So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men,
29 “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”
30 They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.
As soon as Jesus revels who He is, His Disciples returned.
They didn't ask her:
what do you want?
Or the Jesus why are you speaking to her?
The disciples did not know what was going on.
But it was not there place to ask.
Jesus will seek out and show Himself to who he does. It is not our place to question what God is dong.
He saves who he saves.

v. 28.
She left her water pot and when to be a witness.
She was excited about this new truth that she learned that she left her material source of life for her new source of Life.
Jesus allowed her to Go and tell. To go and be a witness.
29 “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”
30 They went out of the city, and were coming to Him.
The Woman told people about Jesus.
its interesting how she presented Christ.
She said “this is not the Christ is it?”
I don’t think that she is questioning if Jesus is the Christ, I think that she already new that Jesus is the Messiah, but look how she presented it to he people,
with a question
causing them to search out Christ for themselves.
We must search out the Lord ourselves. There is a time then we will hear the Word of God.
But the time is now were we need to search out the Lord Jesus for ourselves
Jesus used an unwanted, outcast and lonely woman.

to preach the gospel of truth to an entire group of people.
