Introduction:

Jesus, coming from his wilderness temptations, is acting as a new spiritual Joshua.
Jesus is spiritually cleansing the land.
We see Matthew is emphasizing the Gentile inclusion of Jesus ministry. Compare this to Jesus’ lineage and the magi.
Today, we will look at three actions found in this passage.

Repent (vs. 12-17)

Notice the fact that Jesus comes to the “land of the shadow of death.” This is our location and Jesus always comes to us.
Jesus’ message is very simple, repent.
“Be killing sin or it will be killing you.” -John Owen
“It is not the absence of sin but the grieving over it which distinguishes the child of God from empty professors.” - A.W. Pink
Parent’s we must be able to admit our sin and repent of it to our spouses and children.

Follow (vs. 18-22)

Jesus’ call to repentance is also a call to obedience.
They also followed Christ despite the cost. Church we must cont the cost of following Christ!
Christian, we must be able to be an example.
Spouse to spouse
Parent to children
Workers to employers

Bring (vs. 23-25)

Jesus tells his disciples they will be fishers of all men (v. 19)
In this section, we see people are bringing the sick and possessed from all over.
It is our responsibility to bring people to Christ! We do not save people but we do give them Christ.
Invitation is not evangelism.
