what is it to be a man?

does it mean that you dress up with a blazer or a suit with tie and hat?

or does it mean to have a 6 pack body?

is this image that you see on the mannequin being a gentleman?

does all men have to be an alpha male to be a man?

what made David and man above all other men. he dint have the 6 pack. he was not fit to be a solider in the Army.

but he became the greatest king of Isreal.

How and Why?

today lets dive into the word of God on being a man.

Be Watchful

Stand firm in Faith

Be Courageous (Act like men)

Be Strong

Do in Love

Be watchful

As long as Honey is in the flower, it will attract the bees and the bears.

its your duty to be watchful and not to allow the bears to destroy the flower and only allow the bees to help in pollination.

so be watchful.

stand firm in your faith

a few weeks back we did a sermon on facing storms in life.

in the sermon, standing strong through storms of life.

we saw from the life of Paul how he faced life storms.

today we are going to see how we can Be courageous and how we can be strong.

this advise is found a lot in OT. this is one of the repeated commandments of God to Be Courageous and Be strong.

i can go to the gym and get strong.

but what does it mean to be strong

i can eat proteins and get muscles, but how to be strong?

then i realized that there are bigger in size animals in this world which are feared by smaller ones.

i have seen chickens chasing cows or horses, doges chasing bears or even elephants.

how is it that these small animals have the strength to chase the huge powerful mighty ones.

how is it that even as young parents we realize that these small tiny tots that you gave birth too and who does not have the strength that you have but still at some times you feel that they are stronger than you are and you get tired with them?

is there a realm that is beyond the muscle power or the size that is bigger and stronger that is more powerful.

is it the power of the invisible that is more powerful than the power of the visible?

how you use what you learned is more powerful that from where you learned it from.

you can have a lot of degrees and qualifications to your name, but if you dont know how to use it, its useless.

i had many types of professors in college.

one of the professors was interesting.

he was a rank holder and he was by far the most highly credited professor in our department.

rank from a prestigious institute and etc. but when he is teaching in class, its more like when he is studying.

he could not teach.

however there were other professors, in college, with a basic degree and when they teach, its more powerful and sensible .

there are teachers in the world now who are millioners who have just a basic degree because they really know how to teach.

so its not on the qualification that make a good teacher.

so what does it mean to be courageous?

in our jobs, are we scared to perform it?

should you be scared about our job?

imagine you are a nurse in the hospital, and u go to a patient and want to give an injection, and you are sacred to give injection.

would that be normal?

or you are a teacher and you reach your class and see the students and realize that you are scared about them.

you are worried about what they would think about you?

is that a good healthy teacher or nurse

or may be you are a doctor.

do you want to go to an afraid doctor?

what you are called and trained to do, do it courageously.

Exhortations, 16:13–14)

To be courageous is to faithfully carry out one’s responsibilities even in the face of extreme danger and frightening circumstances.

To be courageous is not to give in to fear or hopelessness or to let them interfere with one’s duty

Be Strong

(ḥāzaq).

vb. to be strong, to strengthen, to be courageous; to fortify.

The verb has a wide range of meanings depending on the context.

It is used in several Hebrew stems to convey a state of being strong or the act of strengthening.In the Qal stem, the verb חָזַק (ḥāzaq) primarily means to imbue with inner or physical strength for a purpose or intended action (Josh 23:6; Judg 7:11).

It is used positively in the OT with reference to the possession of the inner resolve required to carry out God’s commands (Deut 11:8; 1 Chr 28:7; Dan 10:19); it is used negatively to refer to becoming resolute against God or his people.

being strong or hard is like that meaning.

don't give it.

don't give up.

but things are not always what it seems.

you might be called to do a task but u dont have the confidence to do it.

in such circumstance, what do you do? how can we be strong and courageous?

lets go to the OT and see from the live of Gideon and David.

see how Gideon got strong when he heard what the enemy was thinking.

that really built his strength up.

the key is just listen.

to whom? to GOD. he will make you listen to the enemy.

dont listen to the enemy otherwise.

How did David get his strength to face the giant.

and i want you to understand this concept when you face giants in your life.

think of a giant or a giant situation in your life.

just think about it.

you dont have to say it to anyone.

is it your boss which is a giant?

or your job which is the giant?

he realized that the power of his God was bigger that the physical power of Goliath

very interesting to see this aspect in Davids life

u want to be strong, listen to the right voice.

that was Davids key to sucsess.
