Introduction

I want us to discuss our sin, because I believe that God has a better life. He wants you to thrive, and He wants you to talk with Him. He wants you to live in holiness and see all that He is.
Part of walking with Jesus is putting aside our sin, because He is better.
If we are going to put them away, we have to know how do do it.
STEPS:
1. What is it? What does the Bible say it is?
2. Do we have it? How do we locate it in our own lives?
3. How do we rid ourselves of it? How do we put it to death?
Why do some say all and others do not?
DISCLAIMER: If your knee jerk reaction was to think about something that someone else has done, you are more entrenched than you may realize. You are in a dangerous place.

Body

Malice
What is it?
Malice is feeling of hostility or strong dislike, with a possibly implication of desiring to do harm.
Malice is wishing ill for someone else.
It is hoping that something bad happens to someone else.
You can feel sinful malice towards:
Your sister who flaunts her finances in front of you.
A boss who speaks terribly to you.
Your best friend who you would rather one-up than celebrate their achievements.
Democrats (or Republicans for that matter)
Osama bin Laden
As Christian’s we are not to desire ill will towards anyone.
What is the difference between malice and justice?
William Tyndale was burned strangled and burned at the stake for translating the Scriptures into English for the common man.
His final words, “Lord, open the King of England’s eyes.”
Do we have it?
Do you feel open hostility for someone?
Do you dislike the people around you?
Do you ever wish harm on someone else?
Do you ever feel vindicated when something bad happens to someone?
How do we rid ourselves of it?
We ask for forgiveness and confess it.
We pray for those individuals. If we cannot pray for anything else, we pray for their salvation.
We do something good for them. We bake them a cake. We encourage them. We thank God for their achievements.
We find contentment in Jesus. We are worse than we let on, and Jesus loves us anyways.
Deceit
What is it?
Trickery, guile, or deception
Putting on a false persona; stating things that are not true.
Distorting reality for your own gain.
When I was a preteen pastor, I often had kids who would get in trouble (either someone got hurt or their feelings got hurt). Tell me if this sounds familiar: You see two kids coming towards you - The first is running. They spill the entire while the other is limping up. What are they doing? Telling their one-sided part of the story.
Do we have it?
Do you attempt to distort the reality of a situation for your benefit?
Do you represent yourself differently to different people?
How do we rid ourselves of it?
We realize that God
Hypocrisy
What is it?
The hiding of interior wickedness under the appearance of virtue.
What is the difference between hypocrisy and deceit?
Do we have it?
Do you ever tell people to do something and then do the opposite?
How do we rid ourselves of it?
Envy
What is it?
Do we have it?
How do we rid ourselves of it?
Slander
What is it?
Do we have it?
How do we rid ourselves of it?
