thank you for allowing us to form these discipleship groups
ask for the leading of your spirit
guide the conversation and the discussion
help us to build the community the way you want it Lord
The goal for this discipleship group is to build community
to build a community you have to participate
we have to build relationships
if it is successful we will start coming together outside the church
designed to be informal
The task is to guide our discussions to be consistent and in concert with what Bishop is teaching
More than conquerors series and precisely the concept of surrender based on Luke 9:23.
23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
recently we have been dealing with the
concept of surrender
Surrender means cease resistance and submit to authority
surrender brings unity with the Father
deny yourself means that you stop being self centered and when you follow that leads to unity with God
Surrender to the Lord also brings us closer to each other
because being surrendered to God, Denying yourself means when you do that stop being self-centered
one of the things that is unique about folks our age in my estimation is our families can’t afford us being self centered
i believe that if you are self centered the family will start to break apart
what are some things that are unique about the Generation X age group?
As GenX’ers We can’t be me first people.
As GenX’ers We can’t be me first people.
Am I following the scriptutal tenets in every situation as it comes to marriage, or relationship with my children or with my siblings or with my Parents?
If the answer is no then I am not surrendered.
If all of your relationships are healthy you should serve as the backbone of your family.
would like to touch on all relationships but I want to start with Parents
Is there a Biblical presidence on how we should be in relationship with our elderly Parents?

Exodus 20:12 “12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.”

mark 7:9-13 “9 He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. 10 “For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, is to be put to death’; 11 but you say, ‘If a man says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is to say, given to God),’ 12 you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother; 13 thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that.””
“Corban” is the English transliteration of the Greek transliteration of a Hebrew word meaning a gift dedicated to God, i.e., an offering.
the Pharisees tried to use a loophole in the laws so that they didn’t have to personally take care of their Parents
extreme case of dishonoring Parents

1Timothy 5:8 “8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
A form of self-denial related to our Parents is honoring them, especially when they can no longer take care of themselves. Generation X’ers need to be in a posture to do just that as our Baby Boomer Parents get older.
