INTRODUCTION: Homelesss man at starbucks???

Jesus is waiting for you. (4:1-9)

John 4:1–3 ESV
1 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John 2 (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), 3 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee.
Fake news.
Judea to Galilee - show map.
John 4:4 ESV
4 And he had to pass through Samaria.
had to - haha pass through alalbama
Samaria - no one would go through Samaria.
He only did this because he had a diving appointment.
Jesus is willing to go, you can’t find him. But he came to us.
RETELL - John 4:5-6 . He came to small town, sat down by a well a the sixth hour. High noon. This is not the time to visit the well.
John 4:7–9 ESV
7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
Why was she there at noon? avoiding water cooler karen haha...
Give me a drink - you should ask nicer haha
disciples - Jesus sent them away. Like me sending kids away (If I forget you exist), Because he wanted to have a conversation with the woman. He is preparing you for this moment.
Give me a drink - Jesus started it. She wasn’t looking for it.
How is it that you a Jew - This would be unheard of. They did not interact.
Men wouldn’t talk to women. Especially Samaritan women.
You might be asking the same thing, how is it that God’s son cars about me?

He has what you’re looking for. (4:10-15)

John 4:10 ESV
10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
If only you knew. - If you only you knew the heart of God.
gift of God - God’s salvation is a gift. It is not something you earn.
living water - This was something different. She thought she knew what she wanted. But Jesus just revealed to her, she has a deeper longing.
Jesus wasn’t asking for anything, he was giving!
John 4:11 ESV
11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?
She wasn’t getting it.
no bucket and it is deep - Ever missed a joke or metaphor? you can’t give me anything. I can do it myself.
Coach - are you hungry for a win? I want a snack haha
SKIP 12
John 4:13–14 ESV
13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Will be thirsty again. -What are you thirsty for? Whatever you are chasing, it won’t fulfill you.
LEMONADE EXAMPLE.
living water - there is something different about what Jesus is offering.
spring of water welling up to eternal life - Not only will this water satisfy you, it will pour out from you.
John 4:15 ESV
15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”
Sir, give me this water. - Jesus did it! She wants to believe, but he doesn’t stop there.
or have to come here to draw water - she was still thinking this was normal water.

He knows what you’re hiding. (4:16-26)

John 4:16–18 ESV
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”
Go call your husband - why would he do that? He didn’t need him before then.
I have no husband - That’s typically a sore subject for women.
You are right, 5 and not right now - oh no he didn’t!
Jesus just pointed out her worse sin. The very thing she would want to hide and never speak of. This was the reason why she was the only woman there at noon. It seemingly was so embarrassing for her she was avoiding everyone , but Jesus still found her!
It was the very thing that she was going to trying to fill herself up. But she was thristy!
HAHA illustration?????Maybe catching kids in a lie????
SKIP 19-22 - She immediately tries to change the topic. Any excuse possible.
John 4:23 ESV
23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
The father is seeking people who worship him in Spirit and truth - who is that going to be? Will be it be you?
John 4:24–26 ESV
24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
V26 - I who speak to you am He. - that ‘s me. The person you are waiting for is here. The same is true for you and me.

He came to change your world. (4:27-42)

John 4:27–30 ESV
27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him.
John 4:39–42 ESV
39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
God just used a broken person to change the whole region.
