The Great Commission in The Old Testament (Rev)


 

I.    Intro

        "Missions is at the very heart of Biblical revelation and Israel was part of God’s missionary intent for the whole world"

II.   The Abrahamic Covenant itself

      A.   Nature of

             1.    unconditional

                   a.    Institution of The Covenant

                          (1)  Gen 15:1-16

      B.   top and bottom portions stated and defined

             1.    top portion stated

                   a.    " And I will make of thee a great nation,

             2.   Defined

                   a.   The verb in these statements of scripture contain in Hebrew the marker for the Second person proceeded by the 1st person marker on the end of the verb and are imperfect in tense creating the understanding the speaker here will do

                          these things for Abraham and his descendants

             3.    bottom portion

                   a.   bottom portion stated

                          (1) " and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."

                                (a)  the verb is niphael with the 3rd person plural marker thus read “they

                                       will be blessed  

                                (b)  followed by the phrase “ in you”

      C.  God’s Missionary purpose for Israel

            1.   Stated by God  Isa 43:9-10

            2.   Exemplified by the Missionary Kings of Israel

            3.   David Psa 67:1-7

                  a.   God in the emphatic position VSO

                  b.    WnNjyÒ the word here means grace to stoop down

                  c.   לָדַעַת infinitive purpose point why David wants this

            4.   Solomon 2 Chron 6:32-33

      D.  Mention even in the Jewish prayerbook (Siddur) “in that day the LORD will be one and his name will be one” taken from Zech 14:9

      E.    the Church and the Abrahamic Covenant
