to be comforted is to be consoled by someone, to be a comforter is to be a person who commiserates with someone who has had misfortune

God is the ultimate source of comfort!

The Holy Spirit and the Word of God are our two main sources of Comfort.
God may use many different means including other people, but He is the source of ultimate comfort and the presence of the Holy Spirit is the Comforter we really need.
If we draw close to God, He draws close to us. Unfortunately, many times we do not draw close to Him even though He is wanting us to.
He comforts us with His grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
We have to remember that God’s ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.
We will receive His comfort when we trust this truth.

Salvation, Secure Comfort

C. H. Spurgeon is quoted as saying that he was so sure of his salvation that he could grab on to a cornstalk and swing out over the fires of hell, look into the face of the devil, and sing, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!”

When the storms of life, the winds of trouble, and the sea of discomfort and emotional agony seem to overwhelm, we have to say with the songwriter, “Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. . . . We dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.”

God does not always comfort us by calming the storm, but He will comfort us by calming us IF we rest in Him.
Job said he was comforted knowing that His redeemer would stand on the earth.
David said he was comforted by believing He would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
