Peter’s Walk of Faith?

Matthew 14:27-31

Facts to consider:

1.      Peter is not really concerned about walking on water, but to be with Jesus.

2.      Only when Peter realizes that he’s actually walking on water does he begin to sink.

3.      Peter’s impetuousness did not allow time to think things through.

4.      Had Peter thought about it, he probably would not have gone.

I.                   Consider the Cost.

The scriptures beckon for us to consider the cost of our endeavors. However, there are different aspects to consider.

A.    In situations of every day life, we are told too consider what we are about to do, and approach them with caution and wisdom.

Proverbs 23:1 (KJV) When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

Proverbs 6:6 (KJV) Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

B.     Regarding God’s call upon us, we are told to consider that there will be no turning back. (Luke 14:28)

II.                Consider the Real Cost.

The cost of not obeying His call:

A.    Stopping to consider His call will paralyze us.

Remember, Peter was going to join Jesus. He never made it. instead, he stopped to look at what he was doing. But, he stopped.

B.     Stopping to look at our own efforts will sink us.

The next thing we see is that Peter could no longer go to Jesus, He began to sink!
