,The “Be” Attitudes of Humility (Sermon notes)

The whole concept of Christmas is Seriously Ridiculous!
What does that mean, “Seriously Ridiculous”?

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

(1 Corinthians 1:27 NKJV)

It means that God wasn’t born to an earthly king, but a scared, meek, humble virgin.
It means that God comes as a baby to rescue the world.
It means that God started with 12 men who were sinners, who got it wrong a lot of the time, who messed up time and time again but faithfully followed Him.
It means that God would show Himself victorious through dying a criminal’s death.
GOD WORKS IN SOME SERIOUSLY RIDICULOUS WAYS, AMEN?

Why would he do that? Because He’s powerful enough to do just that! God can take the most ridiculous thing and use it for his plans, purposes and glory…and that includes coming to this earth as a baby!

To the world that we live in the concept of humility is in and of itself seriously ridiculous. Think about it, when was the last time that your were taught the need to be humble? The world teaches us to cultivate pride, pride in ourselves, pride in our work and pride in our accomplishments. But this is not mentioned in the Bible, instead we are told to have the mind of Christ -  Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, (Philippians 2:5 NKJV)

          Ok, so I need to confess my pride and become humble. How do I go about it? Listen to the words Richard Foster author of Devotional Classics. “Humility of course is one of those virtues that can never be attained by focusing on it. The idea is ludicrous. As a result, however many have concluded that we can do nothing to deal with the arrogant, ego centered drives that plague us moderns. We simply wait for God to pour humility on our heads.”  That needless to say never happens. Instead we need to cultivate the mind of Christ in our daily life. The following list is a number of ways that we can imitate Christ in cultivating humility. I have chosen to entitle it the Be – Attitudes of Humility
