Today, we have gathered to celebrate the full and wonderful life of Bill Veber.
A Navy Chief.
A Submariner
A Rescue Diver, a hydraulic specialist.
A missile technician for the Trident and Posidon missiles.
With 23 years in the US Navy.
A Multi-talented person.
He worked for another 25 years with Gulfstream Aerospace.
In fact, he was still working until age 76.
A feat by any standards.
But my personal favorite.
He was married for 33 years.
Had eight children.
And I am sure there laughs and memories they cherishing right now.
He was a kind and compassionate person,
known for how he cared for others.
The great King Solomon also lived a full life,
And in that life he was a student of life and wisdom.
He observed and pondered the goings and comings of people like Mr. Veber.
As he studied life … he observed that everything has it’s time and place.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
He goes on to mention some of those.
Ecclesiastes 3:2–8 ESV
a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
Mr. Veber experienced many of those seasons.
And death is apart of the seasons of life.
Solomon said,
Ecclesiastes 3:2 (ESV)
a time to be born, and a time to die;
As we gather this afternoon,
may we remember two comforts.

First, Mr. Veber lived a full life.

When you recount the life and story of Bill, you encounter a man who enjoyed a full life.
His childhood was spent in the beauty of upstate New York.
growing up in a one room school house town.
He then enjoyed the privilages of serving the Navy and being Navy Chief.
He enjoyed the chance to have a second career with gulfstream.
And he enjoyed 33 years of with Mrs. Veber,
and had eight kids.
In that time, I am sure there was -
times of weeping.
times of mourning.
But also
times of laughter
and times of dancing.
> Many of you were blessed by his presence.
- Whether as a husband, father, or a friend.
- We all as a grateful nation - who benifited from his long and distinguished service in this nations strategic submarine force.
>>> And we as country owe a debt of gratitude to Chief Veber.
We all should take comfort that Mr. Veber enjoyed a full life.
But those of us who are Christian,
are comforted with a hope in Christ.
For Christians,

The second comfort is that we hope in a day when death and suffering is gone.

Eccleciastes said,
Ecclesiastes 3:2 (ESV)
a time to be born, and a time to die;
BUT - What if there was the possibility of a time when death was no more?
Christians take comfort in the hope that one day,
we will no longer mourn death.
Revelation 21:4 ESV
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
So this afternoon,
I know several of you hurt.
You mourn and grieve the loss of Mr. Veber.
But may we tak comfort in these two comforts.
(1) Mr Veber lived a full life.
(2) And for Christians, the comfort we find that there is a day when there will be no more death.

Let us Pray
LORD,
We thank you for the blessings and life you gave Mr. Veber. We thank you for his service in preserving peace and freedom. We ask that you would comfort us this morning .... as we grief the loss of a husband, father, friend, and Navy Chief. I ask that you would comfort us with the peace that surpasses all understanding. I ask that you would preserve the memories of Mr. Veber for the family and friend gathered here this afternoon.
In His Name We Pray, AMEN.
