Acts 1:1–5 NASB95
The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God. Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Jesus first presented Himself alive to his followers. To confirm to them the truth of what He said would happen.
Many of them did not believe in the resurrection until this happened.
It is interesting that we have believed in him in whom we have not seen don’t you think? But they couldn’t do that.... why?
vs 4 tells us why. They were told to go and wait for the promise of the father.
Sometimes i think we are at a disadvantage in the areas of faith and trust. these guys didn’t have what you have - they experienced God differently than we did. Much of it needed to be that way because of what they would endure.
They waited nevertheless.
God the Father shows up strong in the Old Testament with glimpses of Jesus
