As we go to God in prayer we approach Him in the Name of Jesus.
Just as Jesus told us to do in:
John 14:12–14 NASB 2020
12 Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I am going to the Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
Jesus also said in:
Matthew 7:7–11 NASB 2020
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what person is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf of bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11 So if you, despite being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
Who is this Jesus in whose Name we ask for needs to be met, for God to be glorified, for the Kingdom to advance?
Since the beginning of the year we have seen a dozen scriptures describe Him in a dozen ways.
This afternoon let’s see Him as the All in All who meets every need because He is All and has all.
Colossians 3:10–11 (NASB 2020)
10 and [you] have put on the new self, which is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created it—11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, and free, but Christ is all, and in all.
Which is not the only reference to Jesus, the Christ being all in all.
Ephesians 1:22–23 (NASB 2020)
22 And [the Father] put all things in subjection under [Jesus’] feet, and made [Jesus] head over all things to the church, 23 which is [Jesus’] body, the fullness of [Jesus] who fills all in all.
The title “All in All” stands at the climax of a forceful summing up in the Colossian Epistle that contains 13 uses of the word “all” in reference to what Jesus gives to our lives because of who He is.
Colossians 1:9–12 (NASB 2020)
9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard about it, have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all perseverance and patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
Jesus is the source of ALL spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Only Jesus can enable us to walk worthy of the Lord
He strengthens us with ALL power according to His glorious might
We attain ALL perseverance and patience through Jesus
That is 4 “ALLs.”
Then there is:
Colossians 1:15–20 (NASB 2020)
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation: 16 for by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also the head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
There are 7 more “alls.”
Colossians 2:3 (NASB 2020)
3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Not just spiritual wisdom and knowledge, but All wisdom and knowledge whether from earth or heaven
Colossians 2:9 (NASB 2020)
9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,
As Charles Rolls says:
So we see in these passages a description that depicts one of the most complete pictures of His superabounding excellence and surpassing eminence found in the Scriptures.
After declaring that Christ is the Creator of all things, Firstborn of all, in precedency of all, in the pre-eminence of all, the Fullness of all, the Reconciler of all, the Treasury of all wisdom, Head of all principality, Nourisher of all the body, Forgiver of all trespasses and such like, the Spirit gives us this choice compendium, “Christ all, and in all.”
Christ is the All.
He is all we need tonight — so we turn to Him.
As Charles Rolls also says:
No room is left for the human or natural elements to intrude; no flesh can glory in His presence.
In so far as spiritual relationships are concerned, Christ is the All.
All of reconciliation for our acceptance,
all of adoption for our association,
all of award for our activities,
all of admiration for our affection,
all of authority for our allegiance,
all of affability for our adoration,
all of administration for our assurance eternally,
and in all else beside, Christ is the All.
So, let us turn to tonight to Christ who is our All in All.
