As we continue in our exposition in the Gospel of Mark, we come to a passage that takes us by surprise. The best way to understand these verses is to ask a couple of questions of the text: Why is Jesus being baptized by John the Baptist? And what is the significance of God ripping open the heavens and the Holy Spirit descending?
