This morning we are continuing our series ,
Decisions, Decisions: Biblical Wisdom for Life’s Choices.
The Bible doesn’t give us definitive answers for every decision we face in life or turn-by-turn directions for our proverbial journeys. You won’t find a verse about where to go to school, whether or not to take a job, or where you should retire. But the Bible does give us wisdom for how to make decisions (big and small) and trustworthy guidance that leads us to God’s ultimate will for our lives. This series explores how we can grow in wisdom by leaning on the power of Scripture
If you have your bible this morning please turn to Proverbs 8:1-11 if not you can follow along in a few minutes on the screen.
last week we look at what is the key to wisdom. We learned that that proverbs was written of us to learn, understand, receive instruction and for teaching. All five are great but thats not the end. We must also follow and lesson to God.
If we are to find wisdom, the we must seek it knowing that God wants that for us as well. We must be willing to allow God to to have full authority over our lifes. In the course of your we will seek either wisdom or folly; we will never be able to remain neutral in the search for wisdom.
Today we are will be answering the question
Who can wisdom call?
And what we must give up for it.
The American immigrant story gives numerous examples of people who left difficult circumstances to come to a new land where they endured many hardships in order to provide a better future for their children. One recent moving portrayal of the sacrifices of immigrants for their children is in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical In the Heights (directed by Jon M. Chu [Warner Bros., 2021]).
In the song “Paciencia y Fe” (“Patience and Faith,” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda), during a heat wave in New York City, the elderly Claudia remembers her mother leaving the violence and poverty of Cuba to come to America in 1943, followed by the overwhelming challenges of adapting to a new culture, trying to avoid making any mistakes, doing backbreaking hard work, and learning a new language—all while under pressure to hurry up. Claudia sings a tribute to her brave mother who dared to do all this out of patience and faith—and a hope in a brighter future for her child. When something is very precious, we are willing to give up all we have for it.
In our reading today, we will see the treasure that wisdom is, and how we are urged to give up everything for it.
Proverbs 8:1–11 CSB
1 Doesn’t wisdom call out? Doesn’t understanding make her voice heard? 2 At the heights overlooking the road, at the crossroads, she takes her stand. 3 Beside the gates leading into the city, at the main entrance, she cries out: 4 “People, I call out to you; my cry is to the children of Adam. 5 Learn to be shrewd, you who are inexperienced; develop common sense, you who are foolish. 6 Listen, for I speak of noble things, and what my lips say is right. 7 For my mouth tells the truth, and wickedness is detestable to my lips. 8 All the words from my mouth are righteous; none of them are deceptive or perverse. 9 All of them are clear to the perceptive, and right to those who discover knowledge. 10 Accept my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. 11 For wisdom is better than jewels, and nothing desirable can equal it.

Wisdom is a female here

Why?
These passage is referring back to an earlier passage in chapter 1 verse 20. This is were we are first introduced to wisdom being called a women.
Picture this. A queen standing in the middle of the public square. She is about to make a big announcement. Everyone in ear shot would stop and lesson to what she had to say. Right?
In the same we we must stop and lesson to the wisdom that is being laid out.

She will go to any length to be heard

Wisdom will try anything to be heard by everyone. She will go to the hight place the crossroads, the city gates. She does all this do anyone and everyone can hear her. Wisdom is want to be heard. It today time she go to the highest building, talk on the news, share things on social media. Even today wisdom wants to be heard.
A lot of time we can cause wisdom to not be heard. We choice our on path. We choice to not lesson and thats when thing can go bad for us.

We can not be foolish

When we choice not to follow wisdom we can make pretty foolish decisions.
All thought the book of Proverbs we will see three different characteristic. The wise, the fool and the simple. We see the foolish here. This person is steadily opposed to God. We sometimes can fit into this category too. When we choice to do are on way and not the path of God.
We need to try our best to not be foolish. We need to really lean into the wisdom of God.

Wisdom is greater than anything else

including silver and gold. I looked up the current prices of silver and gold Friday.
Price of silver- 1 once of silver is 30.88, 1 kg is 992.82
Price of gold- 1 once 2,286.05, 1 Kg 73,498.21
let those number sink in a little bit.
That a lot of money for silver and gold right. When it come to wisdom you can put a price on it. THere is nothing that is equal to it. We can’t buy wisdom.

Who can wisdom call?

Wisdom is available to all who will listen to her voice

Those who listen to wisdom will find the blessings of God’s presence in all they do.
We all have decisions to make every day. God is willing to help us in that pursuit, but we must be willing to listen to his instruction.
When we consider the true worth of wisdom, we long for it before we make any decisions about life. Our decisions must be rooted in God’s wisdom, but when they are, we can confidently move forward in whatever direction we sense God is leading us.

Will you trust in God wisdom?

will you lean into God for wisdom when it come to making our decisions.
