I CAN ALMOST HEAR THE TRUMPET
In 2 Timothy 3 Paul is continuing his discussion with Timothy concerning the ministry.
Paul had just shared with Timothy the characteristics of a great church (the believer).
Now Paul turns his attention to the false teacher, heretic, or ungodly.
Paul starts this message by saying these signs will point to the last days. This is a two fold message pointing to all times after Christ, but also to the days just prior to His return.
The message was that this will be the attributes of the false prophet on a local scale, and the signs of Christ return on a large scale.
As we look at the characteristics that mark the last days I want you to examine your own heart and see if this is the spirit that we are facing?
Has this spirit began to effect those within your own family? Your children, grand children, or spouse? How about yourself? Has Satan began to have this false spirit impact your own heart and desires?
Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
There are 18 categories mentioned in these verses.
The First is four traits that lead to a denial of God.
The first two terms of v. 2 and the final pair in v. 4 have the prefix phil (meaning fond of) in Greek. Several terms have the Greek a (alpha privative) meaning not (note its presence in our word “atheist,” meaning not a believer in God).

Proud-boaster
Arrogant-contemptuous
Blasphemers-evil speakers
Disobedient- rebellious
Unthankful-without grace
Unholy- profane, Godless
Without natural affection- hard hearted
Truce breakers- Wild, savage, unable to live at peace with others
False accusers- Not loving good, false accuser
Incontinent- without self control, one who betrays
Fierce- out of control, brutal
Despisers of those that are good-enemy of good
Traitors- betrayer
Heady-thoughtless
Conceit -boastful to the point of dementia
Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God
The New American Commentary states it this way, “Given a choice, they would always please themselves rather than God.”
There is a 5 fold chord that binds these men to their wickedness.

This literally means to heap on. They will be people that have no restraints on their sinful desires. Not just that they have failed to have victory over but have fully embraced their ungodly ways.
